i feel in a daze,
the service adviser told me the car will have a new engine and be back to me in 2 weeks

what should i do
1. get my money back and buy another car (tuscan)
2. wait for this one to come back and run it in.
by the way i have never considerd buying another make of car,
any info on running in a tuscan would be a great help

Shocking! I feel for you buddy. I hope it gets fixed sooner rather than later. 2 weeks however is a bit optomistic. Best of luck!

what a bummer - thats worse than ours.

Bought a 2001 Tuscan with 10K on the clock from dealer with warranty. 3 weeks and 3K miles later the followers go - that was back in June....its been at the factory waiting a rebuild ever since ...latest news is that we should have it back in another 2 weeks.

2 weeks turnaround is a bit optimistic I reckon - ours will have been 3 months..it took them 2 weeks to look at it then the engine has sat on the floor for 6 weeks waiting for new followers...apparently there were 36 cars in the queue

2. wait for this one to come back and run it in.

It would have the latest highest spec components so less likely to go again IMHO

agree with last comment - apparently the new boss has told the engineers to put this prob to be once and for all and get the best components, money no object. So we intend to run it in, keep it and enjoy it for 15K miles a year

....dosent bode well for all the '2003 car, 12K miles so far, no probs' owners though ...if they are admitting that all followers/valves etc before that time *could* have been of higher spec if it were not for cost !

I agree that, if you can stand the loss of the car for a bit, you should get it rebuilt as you may not end up any better off if you buy another Tuscan. I take it you will not be paying anything towards the work given the length of ownership.

hmm. 2 weeks. by other folks comments over the months. not a fecking chance in hell.

that said... again as other have said. it's a tuscan... it's... well... a tuscan... that's why you/i/the rest of us bought it...it's a 'heart' thing.

however, it's super secret squirrel shite at the factory on the agenda again.

I mean mine had a 'rebuild' last year. The previous owner (mr FreefaLL) had to push to get this registered AT ALL in the service history booklet.. and then....for X thousands of pounds (all beit payed for by tvr) you get some writing in book saying 'had rebuild'.

WTF does that mean.

experience personally (and listening to other on the forum) leads me to think when they get a car in with fishy fingers they replace them... worn valve guides? they replace them.

have an engine with fishy fingers AND worn valve guides. tough... they'' pick it up when it goes the second time. i.e no more than necessary.

devils advocate ? certainly. ISO9001/2000.. don't think so. no traceability. no transparency.

'rebuilt' has become a generic term.. sure.. tvr should 'do a noble' and upgrade, etc but I have yet to see any proof that they do.

so.. u may be the test subject.. has NS implemented clear traceablility and pre-emptive rebuilt strategy or not.

I dunno. If I was you.. I'd ask myself:

1) do I love the tuscan like some sort of animate object with a soul ? if so, wait.

2) no ? demand money back. how every much money you earn there is one thing that is always limited in life... time... life is too short to get stressed.

demand your money back and go elsewhere mate - if you want help doing this drop me an email.

Have a look through the posts in my profile if you want any proof of staying away from the Tuscan.

Although I do still love them I would never own one ever ever again. Unless another engine is put in such a lovely car.

Prestige, just out of interest, what "symptoms" did your car display that made you take it back to the dealer?

i just thought they needed adjusting ,oh the car still had its full power, when i told the dealer they said dont drive it any more the car was then picked up by the rac on a low loader and taken to the dealer.
today is decision day thanks for all your help i needed to know from real people what to do.

ps i am not blaming the dealer in any way as when i picked up the car the noise was not their at all ive just been shit unlucky

just to add, thank god i went to a dealer, iwould have been staring a lot of money in the face to pay for a rebuild, the car come with a super warranty<5k limit>
the dealer said that they will not use the warranty
the cost would be down to them, isuspect the warranty company would not pay out any way.
on the subject of the engine re build the service advisor said he can get the engine to the front of the line in coventry because he has a goo relationship, isuspect this to be not true

we were told the same thing - could get it to the front of the queue...4 weeks etc.....4 weeks later its still sat on the floor...its not until you get on the blower to TVR customer services and threaten to leave them with the car and stuff the finance etc that you even get a phone call to tell you the status.

It wouldnt be so bad if the communcation was better - how much dose a weekly update phone call cost? ...mind you judging by the amount of cars in there they would have to employ someone full time, just on the phone !

sorry to hear that, they are really great cars when they go! sorry i cant be of any more help, your dilemma is 6 of one and half a dozen of the other, go for another car and take your chances or take a car that has a full engine rebuild but in a few weeks (hopefully!)

Stink.

At least it happened now and not in 13 months time when your dealer and your warranty company would have both said "Tough titty."

I will trry a bit of good news. Exactley the same happened to me. On the last test drive the dealer noticed a puff of smoke from under the bonnet. Yep,a re-build. The car had about 11k on it. I was a bit pi55ed , but the dealer said 2 to 3 weeks to get it sorted.

I thought it may need a rebuild some time, it better at the dealers expense than mine.

Anyway, true to his word, the car was ready in just under 3 weeks -- Result. (the dealer was HHC Harrogate)

The car has been great since.

Hey, its not all bad news

millerman, that's good to hear. I have just bought a 2001 Tuscan 4.0 from HHC with 12k on the clock (pick it up on Monday). They have said that it has had a rebuild already, but I was expressing my nervousness about the warranty and pushing for them to tell me that the engine would DEFINITELY be covered should it go again. Sounds like they behave pretty well.

I am baffled about the variability of 'engine rebuild' times. Some people lose their car for months, others get it back in two to three weeks. When mine went earlier this year, TVR Power turned it around in approx three weeks. Is the variation a factory versus TVR Power thing?

My speed six cerb has been gone for two weeks today for a rebuild, it only went up to tvr power on wednesday my dealer said it will be another two weeks before they know how bad the damage is, then get the warrenty co to agree to pay for it, then fix it. So I dont think I will get mine back for at least 6 to 8 weeks, any sooner I will be supprised but happy.
