..as I use the car most of the year the rear screen and roof are more often in than out. For some reason Ive always put up with the squeaks and rattles, but recently it got so bad I started looking for ways to quieten things down. Anyway after a bit of searching found this http://www.techbelt.co.uk/uhmw-tapes/ , just put it on ,easy, and what a difference. Highly recommended.

Which surfaces did you apply it to?

Agreed, although I only lasted about two trips! I've applied it to the rear vertical surface of the rear roof channel on the car, and between screen and clips.

I used WD40 to stop the roof from ratteling. Just swirted it on with the roof still in place, worked a treat.

The only part that is permanently on the car is inside the boot lid where it holds the rear screen in place.
The rest I applied to the top lip of the screen where it slides into the top channel. Then for the roof section the bottom of the leading edge either side of the locating pin, and formed around the plastic rubbing strip at the rear. This way when the screen or roof are taken out the strip isn't visible.

You've tried it too then did it work as well when it was on?
I made sure all the surfaces were clean and then gave a quick wipe with white spirit. The adhesive does seem like it will unpeel when washed but there's 30 odd meters on a roll and I only used 5, so plenty to spare.

Ha no you've miss read that, I only lasted two trips with the squeaking before I went out and bought some tape! It's been on a few months now, it's not going anywhere in a hurry.

I've just ordered some from here: www.theptfeshop.com

Still waiting to get me car back from the bodyshop but it'll have a new screen seal as well, some of this tape, and maybe some felt to try to get rid of the squeaks as it was ridiculous on my recent test drive!

Isn't wd40 bad for rubber seals? Or is that a false memory on my part?

I used helicopter tape, worked a treat and lasted pretty well

Don't know about that but I used 3-in-one Silicone Lubricant when I hade a rattle on the Audi. I says on the tin that it can be used on rubber.

Yes it is, It can break down the certain rubbers over time like o-rings ect... we had a tech report come out at my work interesting readings. I doubt it would do much harm to car door seals in the short, but better to use a silicon spray type grease as it will not harm rubber.

So at risk of being a thickie, I've been looking for some similar tape and was thinking of this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190758609916?var=4901176...
This is anti-slip tape. Am I totally wrong in thinking this would do a similar job?

I would say that unless it was exceptionally sticky and added to the structural integrity by holding the moving parts in place then no it wont help. The chassis is quite rigid, not quite McLaren carbon tub though wink but the body flexes badly.

Thanks Scott, that's interesting. Just wiped of the WD40 and sprayed it with silicon.
