Hi all,

I know this has probably been discussed before, but I'm just looking for opinions on people who have made this change.

Who has changed the front tyres to 225/40's from the original 255/35?

I've heard it can reduce tramlining and generally improve the cars stability. Anyone done it and not liked the result?

Thanks

Pls give some more details, i know from Mk1 that it is nearly impossible to
get car safe at higher speed, tramlining when going over bumbs is what you have to live with.

Mk 2 i thought is better, due to several changes Tvr has made for MK2.

What is your exact problem?
Original shocks mounted? In good working condition?
How old is you TVR?
Pls give exact detailed describtion of your problem!

I've never driven a Mk 1 so I can't really compare. The car is perfectly stable at speed, but does tramline a little and have a little bumpsteer. I am led to believe these things may be worse on a standard Mk 1 than a standard Mk2, but having not driven one I can't really comment.

I don't have a "problem" as such, just that I need new front tyres, had heard of people changing to 225's on the front, and wanted some opinions on the effect that has.

My Tuscan is pretty standard at present, although may get some Nitrons in the near future :-)

1. Do the Nitrons
2. Change tires to 235 40 18, but put good ones on,
some tires are more suitable for the Tuscan, some less!

Tramlining can be also the reason of your old tires!
so different ways to figure out, best is to go to a specialist for TVRs
and let him do it.
Tuscan can be/are beasts sometimes.
My MK1 i never got stable, tried spacers, gaz golds, different setups, different tyres.

good luck

I changed from 255/35 Goodyear F1 Eagles (German version) to 225/40 Goodyear F1 Eagles (Chinesse version) and I found the tramlining to be far less . Later tried spacers ...waste of time .... but raised the steering rack 3mm and the steering was much improved when cornering on bumpy roads...less inclined to get thrown into the kerb.
I find the Bilstiens and standard "S" Eibach spring rates fine for the moment.

From friends experience the "jury is still out" with regard to F1 Asymetrics. The compounds in tyres seems to be changing to meet these damned EU noise limits....If you notice all tyres seem to have noise levels now. TVRs do need firm sidewalls..so my expert tells me smile .

When the shocks need changing I will go for Ohlins.

I have 225/35 Goodyear F1s, plus 3 mm spacers on the front and I found a huge differance on my 2S. trammlining is reduced to being almost non existance, handling feels sharper, I did the TVRCC track day with them and had no problems at all. the biggest improvement for me has been the wet they are much more sure footed and the no signs of aquaplaning so far.

Thanks for the replies all.

I have Goodyear Eagle F1's on it at the moment, with the new asymmetrics at the back.

Think I will give the 225's a go, just wanted to check no-one had had a negative experience of this change.

225/40 F1 Asymetric 2's here. Nothing wrong with the grip even in the wet. Mine still tramlines a little bit, although recently had the geometry redone with some different settings and it's definitely not an issue.
