My tyres are getting close to limit. Can I simply change from 235/45's to 255/35's, keeping the same rims?

It's a 2003, Mk1.

I know tyre choice has been much talked about on this forum but is £199 each a good price for the 255 Toyo prox's R-1R's?

Thanks keith

Consider 245/40's. I went up to 255/35 and didn't detect any improvement in grip/handling and worse ride. Contact area of 245/40's close as dammit and better ride.....I hope as not had them fitted yet but advised it's the better option.

I just fitted some federal 595 rsr in 255/35 coming from 245/40 yoko ad08

It's early days as last night I went out to heat cycle them (as I've been told all these trackday tyres must be before proper use)

Initial thoughts are they felt good, more direct turn in, stickier once a bit of heat got in them, dont seem to tramline as badly and generally felt a bit more confident. Really very pleased so far.

So I'm very much looking forward to seeing what they are really like once I put them back on.

Bloody cheap as well. I hope they are good and I hope the prices don't go the same way as the toyo r888 which used to be cheap too.

Remember some of these type of tyres come up wide, the actual measurement of the 255 is 270mm, the Yoko was actually 255. No apparent rubbing (yet).

I don't suppose you could post some pics of what these tyres look like on the wheels could you please? They are indeed a good price from camskill!! But their website pic looks a bit poopants!

Just had some rsr's fitted on mine as well. Really happy with how the car felt on the way home.

I have a pair of 255 35 18 R-SR's sat in the garage which I probably won't need for a year or so, if anyone needs a pair.

Thanks for the pics, they look quite a square profile. How do you find them? and compared to what?

Joined the parade lap at the spa classic this weekend on Francorchamps ...

In the soaking rain that is, ... laugh and I must say that they're not entirely made for that... eekeekyikesyikes

Have not done a proper track day on these but I suppose they'll be fine although not as good as the R1R's on my Sag.

On (dryish) roads the tires feel pretty planted and progressive and they're cheap as chips...

I just did a dry trackday on the rsr and I will say that I was very impressed.

Without doubt more dry grip than yoko ad08 but more wear without doubt.

They got really warm and were really sticky, on the road they are hard to get heat into but still perform very very well IMO. I didn't experience them going off either, I was doing maybe 12 min sessions on a warm day and really pushing on.mi wouldn't do much more than that down to mechanical sympathy for the car.

I initially heat cycled them too which apparantly improves the whole experience.

They were very sensitive to pressures though. In the morning session I had them at 20psi all round cold and while grip was good the rear felt a bit off, I had 3 spins, one pretty full on. Anyway I gradually got to what is 28 rear and 24 front cold and the car is now pretty serious! Very impressed.

Gets better a couple of mins in smile

What do you call cheap as chips?? I changed my rears not long ago - Goodyear Eagle F1's 245/40/18 (like-for-like) £155 each fitted. Could have had 255's for an extra £5 each but they had none in at the time...
