My clutch slave has started leaking so just spoken to HHC about replacement. £650 plus VAT. Am I missing something here? I know the labour is due to taking the gearbox out but howcome the slave cylinder is £252? Ouch.

Yup, my slave went about 6 weeks ago, cost that plus £70 recovery fee.

You should ask them to look at the clutch and consider replacing it as well if necessary.

I didnt and it went about two weeks ago.

I had to get a new clutch last month and nearly fell over at the labour costs charged by the TVR dealer network. I notice from your profile that you are in West Yorkshire but if you are willing to travel to Cheshire there is a guy who has left a TVR service department to set up on his own and as such his hourly rates are loads, loads cheaper and his quality of service is 2nd to none. He also knows TVR's inside out. The brand new clutch including the labour of fitting it only came to £650 inc vat!

If you interested email me through my profile and I'll give you his number.

Yep that's for everything. The guy is called Ian and his number is 01606 831244, let it ring for ages as it gets really noisy in the garage!

He also had me new leather sleaves made and fitted for the gear stick and handbrake where the old ones had got tatty for £160. Brilliant match and a good price I thought????

Are the slave cylinders internal to the gearbox bellhousing then?

Of course. There'd be no point putting it on the outside where you could get at it would there?

Eve,

How many miles had your clutch done? Mine had a new one put in about 12k miles ago during the second rebuild but I do a fair bit of drivng in stop go traffic so don't know whether to get a new one stuck in at the same time.

Does anyone know how much the clutch itself costs?

Fook then that is cheap ..

seeing as i actually know what the factory trade and retail prices are on these things this guy is actually doing the labour free of charge *and* giving you cash back aswell. It's gonna be much more cost effective for me to take a day off work and take all my clutch jobs over there.

Hi Evostick

The clutch was cheap, - slave cylinder alone is £220 from the factory.

The leather bits are outragous though.
I replaced the gaiters on the gearlever and handbrake for £19 plus VAT each plus a bit of time (less than an hour) and some evo stick glue. That was from a dealer....!!!

I thought that but assumed he'd had special ones made up rather than just the factory versions?

I recon it would be cheaper to fit a slave cylider with the correct gearing and sizes and machine bits to fit. (I have machining facilities available), if I speak nicely to the man.
For about £3000 we could programme the CNC machine to turn em out for about a fiver each plus seals.

Guys, sorry for bringing up an old one but I have just got back from my hols and it would appear that for much of the thread my head up up my **** (what with going away you undertand!)

Ok, so to save my sanity after writng complete rubish...

I only had a new clutch fitted and it cost £440 + vat (came from Blackpool), the labour was £150 and the gaiters were £60 inc vat. I think that it's the labour where I was making a big saving in comparison to the dealers.

The clutch went at 22k.
