Just taken the car for a run and suddenly smoke pouring from the engine. Pulled over straight away. A conrod has come through the block. The engine was rebuilt 11000 miles ago by Power. Why would this happen? Will speak to Dom tomorrow but in reality I can't afford another rebuild so not sure what to do. Any thoughts?

No unfortunately the warranty was a 2 year warranty and it was rebuilt back in 2008. It's only done 11000 miles and always warmed up properly and serviced as specified.

Damn bad luck. Was it just a top end rebuild 5 years ago?

Ouch, sorry to hear that. There are probably a number of things that could cause that, you'll probably only know once its taken apart.

Well, I suppose once Power have a look at it and diagnose what caused it there may be scope for negotiation on a rebuild? Here's hoping!

I do hope they can help you out. There was obviously a component failure somewhere, you'd think they would stand by their work for longer than that.

So sorry to hear this.

My feeling, with it being Power, is they will look to help you.

Good luck.

What would the car be worth as is? As some of you have read my posts, the car has wanted for nothing, but I really don't think I can afford another rebuild, so may have to let it go.

Hi Mike

I'd talk to Dom first, he's a good man and very knowledgeable.

In terms of what could go wrong, as I said on the other forum these things happen with this engine. I haven't seen many rod failures and it depends on the components in 2008 but it could be a bearing spinning, bolt failure or a number of other things. Depends on the damage, how fast the engine was spinning but you might be able to get away with a repair on the block and changing what is damaged or it could be lights out for the block. Hopefully the head will be ok.

2nd hand engine? What oil are you using? Was the level ok? temps ok? Any other symptoms? Could just be bad luck at 11k I feel your pain. frown

I wasn't giving it beans just cruising at around 70mph. I wasn't using any oil, just had it serviced in Dec and throttle body recon in Jan, temps were around 85. No other symptoms at all. Gutted!

I'm sure Dom will want to resolve this swiftly for you without too much impact on the pocket smile particularly given the recent rebuild from power. Hopefully this issue isn't a flaw awaiting others. I'm sure it will be investigated, aligned to recent posts related to other providers, who havent had great press. This is even more reason to ensure your happy smile

Sorry to hear that, take a deep breath and speak to Dom and let them look at the engine, just be aware that it will not be a rebuild as the bottom end will be fecked with a hole in it,worst way a complete new engine if the pistons have damaged the head, or just a new bottom end, fingers crossed for you, let us know how you get on

Sorry to hear this, I had a similar problem with my Tuscan MK1 (2000 model) and that was some 18 months after a top end re-build. I don't know if you still had the orignal (Indian manufactured)conrods in the engine, but these were what let go on mine.

As others have said talk to Dom.
