The rack is specific to tvr as far as I am aware.

Oh, I thought it was a Ford part, but I don't remember where I've read this. Digging into Goo... did not deliver the answer.

Maybe try one of the better thought of refurbers in the UK who've done a few TVR racks? Kiley Clinton seem to have a decent rep on here.

Mine started leaking very soon after being refurbished, but was from the nut in the centre of the rack not being done up properly, and not the seals where the original leak came from. Turned out the nut needed Locktiting or something to sort it out.

TVR Power refurbish racks now by the way.

I would expect whoever sorted the refurb to sort it free of charge if it needed doing again in less than 12months - that's just crazy!

As a matter of fact me too expects the guys who did the refurb to repair that free of charge. But I hate the job of removing the rack. Last time it was done while engine was out plus it was done at a proper workshop. Now it will be my homework. I assume it is a bcensoredh of a job plus the car will be grounded for a while, i'd preferred just to switch the unit and off she goes again. That was the reason for starting this topic

Never ever.....Land Rovers (and most Range Rovers) have a Steering Box, TVRs have a steering rack....two very different systems.

I think they're a couple of grand, aren't they? Where is the leak coming from?

It is dripping from the left hand side gaiter.

I had my rack refurbished.Turnaround for the rack repair was 3 days, as long as you give him some notice, so he can get the parts in. I used M &P steering, Unit 22, Pier Road Ind Estate, Gillingham, Kent, ME7 1RZ. 01634-576654
No problems since and no leaks.

Without saying too much, I was a monument hehe

You could try some stop leak fluid? When mine was leaking bad enough to empty the reservoir within 30 seconds of use, the stop leak fluid swelled the seals enough to allow me to drive 40 mins to my mechanic hardly losing any fluid at all. It would slowly drip still, but was 90% better. If you have a small drip, perhaps this will give you a few more months of motoring?

I like that.

What year is your car? Maybe you could buy a used rack, get it sorted properly and swap them over. Get yours redone under warranty and sell to recoup your costs.

I think walfords saying that the majority of the steering rack components are from British Leyland.

And the picture is of his latest creation biggrin

Bought some leak stopper today. Hope this cures it for the summer. Keeping finger crossed...
