Got the Calliper off. Now what? Should the disc just pull off the hub (with some persuasion from a rubber mallet perhaps)?

It seems to be secured on the hub VERY tight.. Does the 19mm bolt through the centre of the disc and hub play a part here? (Does it hold the disc on?).

Any advice much appreciated as always.

Thanks

Own Chimaera, can't sleep.
The centre nut usually holds the hub on.
The disc is held on by the wheel.
Last time I changed my brake pads the discs were loose.
Sounds like the persuader is required.
I assume there are no retaining screws? They would be obvious.

Definitely no retaining screws (2004 3.6 model). Upon closer inspection I can now identify where the disc (inner diameter hole) mates up with the hub surface face, have given this area a CRC spray to try and loosen it up a bit.

Looks like I better get swinging away with the old rubber mallet then…

The discs should just pull of once the calipers are removed, so I think your right a bit of gentle persuasion with a rubber mallet should have the off.

This video of a disc change on a Renault Megane should help. I know its not the same car, but its the same process and shows him doing it Clarkson style (with a hammer!)

I had to do a lot of rust grinding/chiselling/scraping to get my original discs off. The inside of the disc rusts around the edge of the hub making it difficult to get them off.

4 solid firm belts with the mallet worked a treat, less than a minute and they're both off.

Thanks guys,

Next up fellas - Pad replacement on these AP callipers... 2 split-pins going through the calliper/pads and the spring-plate in between too.. Any pointers here guys?? (Scratching my head - 10 years since I last done this type of hands on work myself).

As always, much appreciated and thanks in advance 😊
