Had a nice run into Edinburgh this morning but right from the off the gears seemed at times tricky to select.

At first i thought it was just the cold weather however the further i drove the more apparent the issue became. Third and fifth were probably the most troublesome and at times i couldn't get fifth and had to go back to fourth.

Is there any adjustment on the clutch? i had a look at the Graham Varley manual tonight and it seemed to suggest cutting a hole in the gearbox which seemed a bit extreme. The car is a 2003 S and allegedly had a clutch at circa 21k (now 31k).

Trouble getting 5th meant a new clutch for me.

Hello Richard

Had the same issue with the T350. Gradually more difficult to select 3rd and 5th gears. The clutch eventually gave out and stranded me near Hopetoun House.

I'm occasionally having problems getting out of 2nd or 3rd now. It's fine after 35 minutes or so once everythings warmed through.

This subject was also discussed a couple of months back. I have a notchy gear selection at the moment but am living with it until next spring. I have a 2000 model Tuscan but I would imagine that yours will be the same.

On the floor behind the clutch pedal is what appears to be a rubber travel stopper. Pull the rubber bit off and you will find that it is adjustable. Winding it down lower will increase your pedal travel. BUT this comes with a warning as many on here say that by adjusting it too low you can increase wear elsewhere in the clutch. Probably only a short term fix and as said a new clutch looks likely eventually.

When my clutch went 5th got stiff then it wouldn't go into 1st. It then suddenly worked fine for about 20 minutes then I had to drive all the way home in 5th with a clutch that wouldn't disengage the drive. Luckily it was early morning so not much traffic.

Sounds like clutch slave cylinder. I had the same issues over the course of a couple of weeks, culminating in a full refusal to select gear and flatbed journey.

The slave cylinder is about a £250 part, the clutch is around £700. As the clutch in mine had done 25K I opted to get it replaced at the same time. £1600 in total.

Thanks for the feedback chaps - though "bugger" springs to mind!!

Will need to have a think about the next step, fifth syncro is a little lazy so may be the time to look at that too. Either way it's going to dent the funds....
