So now that one of my bulbs has given up, it seems almost cheaper to buy a HiD kit of eBay than to replace the standard bulbs.

Has anyone had any issues with electrical interference when using one of these kits? Or any other issues?

I'm prob thinking of a sub 6000k temp as I don't like any blue tint, but is there any other things I need to be aware of?
Are the kits sold by places like HiD4U pretty much the same as the cheaper units on eBay or is it worth going for a uk distributor?

Oh, and any before after pics of conversions would be great!

No issues with electrical interference, I got mine from China and they are very good, thing to watch out for is a poor beam with random shards of light, mine are fine but I have seen some that are not.

I think I used HiD4u but that was just a front the lights came from China.

Go for 4300k as the highest, get a lower light temp if you can, I think sunlight is 2700k

I fitted a pair that I bought from China on ebay to my S. No problems fitting but they do interfere with radio. The aerial is down the left side of the bonnet I think. It could be moved to the boot area I suppose. Not a problem for me I prefer the Speed_Six music anyway. Started with 6300k but found it too blue & obvious to MOT switched to 4300k much better & MOT passes twice.

Dave, I too am thinking of going for HID.

Try these guys www.hidcity.co.uk

A pal put an H4 set on his Chimaera from them and his lights are brilliant.
Think an H7 set for the Tuscan works out at about £80...And the kit is Eu approved.

One of my HID bulbs has just gone, was going to get another set as they've served me well for the past 2 years. When I came across these
Must admit, I like the idea of less draw from the battery, and they do have a few good reviews from various people.
May give them a shot.

Hi Ben,

Steve in the Hants group went for an H4 dippable kit for his Chimaera. It really transformed the lights from these guys.
http://www.hidcity.co.uk/category-s/1815.htm

They are regulars at the NEC classic show, UK based and IIRC are TUV certified(?).

Now these look good and the Tuscan has projector lenses as standard. Would be interetsing to see what the depth of field with these is.

These coupled with crystal (not the clear) side light lenses would instantly modernise the front of the car. Its hardly aged but a tweak like this would bring it right up to date.

Right, i'm feeling reckless so i'll be the guinea pig for these!! hehe Before I order though, what bulbs to the sidelights on a mk2 take? I might as well upgrade those to led at the same time.

One of my full beam xenons is also not working but i'm going to wait until i've got the dipped and sidelights sorted first before looking at them!

Just be aware that you may well have to up the fuse that protects the headlights as the initial in rush current to set these going will probably take out the current sized one.

OK last question just in case someone knows already to save me faffing around trying to remove them... it looks like one of my main beam xenons has also failed now (mk2 S with the main beam/flash xenon from the factory). I'm getting a loud crackling/buzz when they're turned on, sounds exactly like somethings shorting out.

Can I just swap whatever's in there with another kit? I couldn't work out how to remove the bulb on a quick look, and they're mounted within a reflector rather than a projector lens, however I assume as they're only for main beam that it's just a matter of getting the right fitment H4/H7 etc.

Anyone here changed one of the factory units and if so can they just be replaced with an aftermarket version?

And the bad news is... the LED bulbs are too big to fit through the bulb housing frown
It's probably possible to pull the whole housing out and modify it but that seems a little excessive and also a massive pain in the neck!

On a plus note, I had also ordered a set of 50W HIDs (5000k temp)... http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/h7-50w-slim-canbus-hi...

These seem to do a great job, with a white light rather than any blue tint to it. Still not 100% as bright as a full factory fit job, but so much better than bulbs.

Just need to sort out some LED sidelight bulbs now. Turns out these are not 501 bulbs, but 233 bulbs so will need to order some more.
Not sure the blue or red ones we tried worked quite so well!

Big thanks to Wilton Morgan Engineering for the use of their workshop and help!

Well as a result of my requirement of one up man ship with mr Chips ;-p
I took the lights out and adjusted the aperture of the housing with the dremmel to fit the Led headlights. All done 5 mins later and a good fit with impressive output. Will post up pictures as soon as I get it all stuck back together.

Well i'm going to take the fact that I've posted pics first as a "win"... so here's the completed version on mine:

I went for some Osram 6000k LED sidelights (233 fitting) in the end. And you can clearly see they're a lot better than the standard bulbs on the right. I had bought some of the cheap Chinese ones on ebay which had about 8-10 smaller leds on, however these turned out to be physically quite tall, and when fitted in the housing, they were touching the main beam xenon bulbs so a definite no no.
Here's the Osrams:

And now in full flow!

So... over to you Bennyboy smile

P.S. you're not allowed to post pics of your airbox, or of the fact that your bonnet hinge still works (what you can't see above is how I've wedged it open!)

Ben, how did the LED headlight replacement work out. Was the output and depth of field good?
