Contact Plasticmam on here. He's just made a mould to get 3.5” speakers in the doors.

Cool - but any idea on price - custom made stuff sounds expensive!

It's not cheap, on top of plasticmans work you've got the trimming cost.
That said the Tuscan door panels are very bland and the upgrade certainly enhances the interior.

Yeah I thought so - I'd like to have a go myself - I have the leather dye anyhow so if I cock up the current panel I can just buy a piece of leather and redye.. in theory.. wink It's more the actual act of fixing it I'm not sure about - what do you screw the speaker on to?

Obviously mine are moulded with a lip to screw the speaker into.
Could you not buy a speaker spacer which I guess you could adapt to mount from behind leaving you with the correct speaker mounting points on the front?

Yep you can buy rings in mdf for this purpose - but do I then screw the mdf into the actual door or is there something on the door already to mount it to? I don't have my car back yet so haven't been able to have a look myself.

Oh I see,
I think generally the speakers are mounted to the panel and not the door its self.
When mine where done Dave used fibreglass and filler to mould a pattern I'm sure you could remove the covering from your panel fix an MDF ring and then blend it in with filler and then recover.
Without removing my door panel I'm not sure what depth you have and at what point there would be a sufficient void to mount them directly to your panel.
Hope this makes sense?
When does your car come back? If you need a photo of the door I could remove my panel and take a couple tomorrow?
My window rattles when I close the drivers door so I'll be killing 2 birds with one stone!
Don't suppose you have any tips on window adjustment

Hi Steve.
Passenger door shuts with a nice solid click, the drivers door glass rattles when I close the door, I'm sure it must be something simple? Generally the glass raises and drops perfectly.

I can only think that the bolts may be loose, if you take the door card off you will see the rails that the window runs up and down, you have bolts at the top and bottom and depending on the fit, loads of washers. As the fit is good just see if any of the nuts are loose?

I think a window rattle can also happen if the felt needs replacing but I could be mistaken.

I was expecting the car back by now but it seems to have had a lot of delays - I guess with TVR's maybe sourcing parts is a much slower process than with other cars?! (the accident was the 4th of January!) - The now have the parts but I'm not sure if they've tried painting the front panels yet - it's up with Surface and Design at the moment - then will go back to Str8 6 to fix the radiator.

I never thought an accident where a couple of panels and a radiator were damaged would take so long to fix!
I was hoping I'd have it back from the meet on the 12th but now that looks like a pipe dream.

I'll be going either way though - have booked a B&B with the wife so I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible then - my first TVR event! =)

Fingers crossed you'll get it back in time.
I think S&D have a back log at the moment, possibly the time of year, everyone keen to get the paint work sorted for summer!
Claire & I will be staying on the Saturday night so hopefully we'll get to socialise with like minded TVR nuts.
Hope it works out that your car is done in time. I saw it in it's damaged state and although sad it's a stunning car in a stunning colour and would be a good attraction at the show.

Yep - fingers crossed but if not it'll still be amazing to see all the others. I've been watching youtube videos of TVRs just to get my fix lol.

Just back from the trimmers, full carpet, door cards and roof lining in Alcantara. The speakers were already in the door when I purchased the car, a £4k system when new apparently.
My trimmer, Trim Deluxe who's done a great job, says the aluminium mounts are purpose made.
It all sounds pretty good, with a new Alpine175 head unit, 433 amplifier and Rainbow Intelli 8 sub.

wow nice nifty - though I'm still not sure how they attached the mount to the door! Is it literally just held in place from slotting in or have they then glued it or used filler in some way?

I love that idea! No mods to the leather/pocket section. Not sure how to make that by hand. I wonder where they got that from, but I want one! What size speakers are those? 6.5"?

Cheers,
Martin
