Well as the listing says , I went and got a MOT in a hurry yesterday and doing some work at home so picked her up when finished and straight home into the garage , normally I'd leave the garage doors open for air circulation but totally forgot frown .
Went into the garage this morning and the bonnet has and big blister above the manifolds Bo....ocks
So bonnet re spray on the cards and a bonnet conversion ....

You have been warned .......

Without removing the bonnet... Does any know if any kind of heat protection was fitted as standard on a Tuscan S 2003?

My bonnet and scuttle panel had crazed above the exhaust on my mk1. During its recent re spray I fitted a sheet of zircoflex 2 to the bonnet in the hot area. It is expensive but so far so good.

Thx for the reply Andy, a few questions mate:

what size did you fit, is it just to fit above the exhaust section? Options seem to be 297 x 210 / 450 x 550 / 900 x 550
did you get the adhesive backed option?
Is fitting/sticking it onto the back a hard job?

I bought the zircoflex 2 (~£65) self adhesive.
I cut a strip 550x 400 that sat nicely down the hump in the bonnet by the exhaust manifold. (Obviously when looking at the bonnet upside down. The dip when looking at the top!)
The remaining 550x50 strip I cut into three bits and put in the wavy bit of the scuttle panel. Sorry I didn't take pics of the underside. Typically the bonnet has been off for a week and only went back on yesterday.

Andy, was wondering how did you prepare / clean the underside of the bonnet before applying the shield to remove the dirt & grease. Could you recommend a product if this was done by your paint people.

Cheers

The bodyshop I used de greased the underside with the usual thinners and panel wipe before painting in satin black. The zircoflex was then applied straight over this. Seems ok so far.

Are you sure it happened when you got home and not when they were doing the cat test in the mot? the exhausts glow red hot during the cat test! .. and the risk of blistering the paint is the reason I always remove tuscan bonnets completely when doing any rolling road work for instance.

I used Zircoflex for the same purpose, too. It works a treat.

Bit of a worry this, as I've only just bought my Tuscan. How long ideally should a Tuscan be left to cool down before closing your garage door? That's if the car is up to temperature after a decent run out and in a standard size garage, like this:

Don't know if it's something to do with the quality of the paint job, but I've always garaged my car immediately with no issues.

Agree up to a point but aren't the emissions checks done at idle?
When you've got a car on the RR you'll have it under considerably more load generating vastly more heat, all be it with cooling fans.

Only once had a slight blistering (which then went down) leaving almost invisible crazing. However this was after a very hard run in 35 degrees for an hour and then sitting in stop start traffic for 15 mins. Never worried about it since.
It'll never hurt to drive a gentle last mile home before putting her to bed though.

I think the emissions are tested by holding 3,000 revs or so for several minutes
