What do you reckon? Its the kind of colour combo Im after. Plus aircon and recent engine work etc. PH's car (hello Chris!!).

They are offering me a PX on my 350Z + £5,500, a good deal?

Any experience buying from Fernies, chatting to them they seem pretty sound. Any one know if the warranty is useful from them, what they are like to deal with after sales?

Basically any advice would be great before I dive into this motor.

Hi and sorry not been in touch a bit sooner - hectic week.

Can't do a deal on your 350Z myself - think I need something more boring and economical like a diesel (after giving it some serious thought mind!).

No personal experience with Fernies, but reputation is quite sound from what I hear. However, I think you would be better selling your 350Z privately as they have good residuals and then buying a TVR with cash, if you can. The price they are asking for the Tuscan seems about right (although you could have mine for the same price, newer, lower mileage, recent service and interior upgrades - plug, plug, plug) - but they will be making £4K on that sale, and about the same again if they sell your 350Z. Of course if you feel the need to do a deal at this time of year, you may be in a stonger position to barter as I'm sure it will be one of the least active months for performance car buyers.

I brought my Chim from them a couple of years ago, I have found them to be a very professional outfit. Really great bunch of guy's, would have no problems buying another motor from them.
Warranty? Whatever company they use they will make sure you get a good package. I’ve never had a warranty issues with Fernies and I'm still with Warranty Holdings.

Im now thinking along the lines of buying privately. There are a couple of gorgeous cars for sale here after all

Is it true that you can basically buy privately the same warranty that you can get from dealers? If so I can't really think of a reason for paying dealers premium.

I'm not convinced that having a warranty offers much protection anyway. They generally cost about £1K and last 12 months (more or less). If you try and make a claim, invariably the companies do there darnest to avoid paying out claiming wear and tear or you have to demonstrate that a componet failed suddenly, rather than having gotten worn out.

I guess everyone's attitude to risk varies - as it can depending on whether the car is your main motor, or a lightly used weekending pride and joy. My own philosophy would be to bung the money in the bank and insure yourself. If your car goes tits up, you pay for it, if it doesn't you have saved money. Having a warranty means that you HAVE to make a claim in order to break even (if you get my drift).

Therefore, I was happy buying privately and would again rather than handing extra cash over to a dealer - but its horses for courses as they say.

Sounds like good advice to me. A warranty that pays you back 100% of the money you put into it if you don't make a claim

Never purchased from Fernies although nearly did. Very pleasant to deal with and spent ages going understanding what I was after...when i feel I can afford a Tuscan I will be popping down to see them...

I agree with Bryan on this one. Buying privately this time of year I'd have thought you could get a very good 2000 car for around £22k, leaving you £4k to stick in the bank in case. I did that with mine and paid 25k when dealers were asking around 29/30 and in the 18 months I've had it, apart from servicing, it's cost me about 700 quid for the clutch slave cylinder.

Maybe look to go for a car that's either just had a rebuild so under factory warranty, or one that's done a few miles since work as a lot of the multiple rebuild cars seem to have gone soon after the first (mine included)

Paid £700 for 3 years cover. Don't believe for a second they'll "do their best" to put claims through (bunch of cowboys), but there's only so much they can knock back. In 6 months, it's paid for itself on the clutch going, so I've now got 2.5 years of cover at zero cost...

But would they entertain an engine rebuild - that's why most people who want a warranty, want a warranty?

I guess, it also depends on how far you can go to try and protect yourself. I'd do the £1000 a year thing to cover any breakdowns, but I would still insure a car fully comp as I wouldn't like to write off a £25-35K motor. But as far as warranty companies go, I have an even more hateful mistrust of them than insurance companies.

I think its down to individuals choice really..

I bought my tuscan with a year's warranty from a dealer and four weeks later I had the dreaded finger follower problem (x2) my warranty company paid out without any quibble for the re-build

knowing what I know now though I would definitely consider buying private and would purchase a warranty (with the same company or one I had done some investigation on)privately....

each to their own though...
