EFI fault

Can anyone help?The EFI warning comes on when I start the car,what does this mean?I have to book the beast in to fix a little niggles anyway but can anyone tell me if this is a big problem or not?Thank Q Tuscaneers!!

Ahaa - had this myself earlier today, although I don't know what it means?

I had this on mine & as a result of it not being used an awful lot when the car was started, for a split second the EMU is getting a signal that the alternator is not charging the battery hence you get a efi warning on the display .What is needed is a new ECU chip at a cost of around £50 inc fitting & VAT & your problem should be solved

Another reason for getting this warning is if the car is wet (either sat out in heavy downpour or just after washing), something about one of the sensors getting wet and giving the erroneous fault.

The sensor Chim450 refers to is on top of the airbox which is on the drivers side just under the bonnet near the windscreen. It gets wet easily when you wash the car. I minimise the amount of water that goes directly under the bonnet when washing and I never get this alarm now. Duration of the alarm depends on how wet it got.

Hope yours is down to this.

I did have an EFI fault because one of the lambda's was on its way out. Quite often get an oil pressure warning for a split second on startup.

I haven't had the washing the bonnet problem myself, but I know that when it was in for its service the mechanic was kicking himself because he thought it would be a kind act to wash it down (probably having been down some dirty roads to test it (but I can forgive him for that!)). Apparently it didn't take too kindly to that - but it dried out by the time I got there!

Apologies Ron,

Just re-read my last post and it can come across as Mr Smug ...and not the light-hearted jibe as intended!

As you are no doubt aware, the oil pressure warning coming on for a second or so, is entirely normal and is no cause for concern. Until oil reaches the oil pressure switch it will invariably momentarily flash up "zero".

PS - Any spare T shirts greatly appreciated for mopping up water ingress in Elises.

This makes perfect sense as I had just washed mine prior to it coming on. It's been ok since
