A few weeks ago I posted a thread around whether should I or shouldn't I buy a Tuscan, of which many people offered some good advice (thank you).
Well I went and bloody did it a bought a 2002 model last week and am as happy as a sand boy (love the change up lights, and the looks you get driving it - I love just looking at it parked on the drive - bit of a knob eh but i don't care).

For those who have a Chimera and thinking about buying a Tuscan if thats your bag then wow I think its worth it (apart from you think your Nigel Mansell and all other cars on the road should be banned cos they go too slow - just growing the moustache now). If the engine goes tits up then so be it, tomorrow 's problem

As a novice to running these cars I have a few questions that hopefully some of you could answer:

1. What temp does the oil need to be before you can put your foot down (I have been keeping revs below 3000 before oil got to 60 Deg C.
2. Should the manual speedo be lit up when your turn the lights on at night (or do you just use digitial display in the middle - has my bulb gone !!)
3. Can you put speakers in the front of the car for a surround sound feel (or are you only limited to the back)
4. And what does it feel like with the roof down (roll on spring !)

Hi, you sond just like me when I got mine last year. To answer some of your questions:

1. I was told to keep under 2500 until oil at 40C. In the winter it is very hard to get to 60C.
2. Speedo on mine is lit all the time. Lights make no difference.
3. Quite a few people have put speakers in the doors with modified door skins.
4. Roof off is good, one of the reasons for buying a tuscan, take the back window out too to avoid buffeting. If you leave the window in then you should open the windows about 1 inch to ease the buffeting.

You will need to get some pic of yours when the sun comes out. People on here will start to complain before long that you have no pics!

Happy Driving

Well done Adman. You know it makes sense. Just take it easy on the greasy roads until you are used to it.

For what it's worth I was always told 2500 rpm until 50 degrees for the oil temp but everybody's been told something different! IIRC the manual says 2500 until 80!!

Enjoy.

Someone buy this man a beer!

Congratulations on the purchase, it's nice to see someone else not being put off by 'what-ifs'. May there be many thousands of blissful driving miles to follow!

I'll join you all as soon as I can!

Well done Adman. Much the same philosophy on the engine as myself.

2500-3000 until 40 then 4000 until 60 was what I was told. After that the full rev range .

Any time it is not raining my roof is off even if its below freezing - after all thats what the heater is for . As said previously there are different modes of travel, I usually use the roof off, window out mode although if there is light rain I keep the window in as this stops the rear getting wet. Last year returning from LeMans I could not fit the roof in the boot so removed the rear window and kept the side windows open - this configuration with closed windows can also be used in the rain.

Same here! I've just traded in my Griff 500 for a 2003 Tuscan 3.6 and I'm loving every minute of it. They're not exactly slow are they?!

Pete

p.s. all the bits of my instrument pod light up all of the time. The only weirdness is that the dimmer knob only adjusts the brightness of the speedo, not the LCD, fuel or water temp gauges. Don't know if that's normal or not...

Agree. Would also say DON'T do the opposite of revving the balls off it and keep the revs at 1200/1300 when it's cold - straining the engine when you've got your foot down at those revs certainly won't be good for it, either. I tend to keep the car between 1700-2300 RPM until 25-30 degrees, then up that by a couple of hundred to 40, then up to 3500 (max; not on every up-shift) until 60+.

Dash should all be backlit.

What you doing over in the Tusc forum, Greg? Today's blat making you consider a change in transportation?

Edited to add: If we find a nice long straight, we'll see if we can't play darts and hit a top score next time.

Congrats
You are now a member of a very exclusive club. Take care, get used to it on these winter roads, and be ready for endless roof off summer fun.
