New Member - Hi Guys - Nitron shocks?
Discussion
I bought my first Tuscan last summer! Had the big service done by Top Cats Racing and Charlotte suggested that I register with you guys. (I was Karting with the TVR Sprint boys last Saturday at Milton Keynes - Charlotte thrashed everyone!!)
For the record mine is a reflex purple 2000 4.0 having had an engine rebuild by Dom at TVR power. Goes like stink.
The Tuscaneer thing in August looks like fun, I will stick that in the diary.
Warren at Top Cats reckons i should get nitron shocks fitted and corner weight it. I have no idea what that means but what do you think?? Would be glad to hear from anyone out there in TVR land.

Have had Nitrons fitted to my Tusc, and had them on my Cerb prior to it. For me, they're an essential upgrade... but I come from a background in Elises, so the handling's quite important to me.
Ask yourself if the handling/ride comfort/high speed stability/etc. is good enough for you, or if you'd like it a little better? If you want it better, and think that a very, very noticeable improvement to put it on a par with other front-running (super-) cars in the handling stakes (excluding Nobles and Elises), then do it. If not, save a grand and don't.

I had Nitrons supplied by Joospeed fitted on mine two years ago, and as others have said already it totally transforms the car this applies particularly to early non RR Tuscans as the standard suspension was not very good. On later cars I believe they had better dampers & various changes to the chassis to improve the bumpy road ‘handling characteristics’.
Changing the suspension is not everything though as geometry set-up & tyres also make a big difference.
As for corner weighting I have not had this done on mine although after reading

I might try and get it done sometime as with a 100KG weight in the driver seat I don't think mine would be totally balanced!

Agree re. the comments on needing to sort geometry, etc. too. With a set of well-matched tyres on, geometry done three(!) times till I was completely happy, and Nitrons all round (again, onto the third set there!) the car's now more stable, predictable, and downright enjoyable at 120 than it was at 60 when I bought it. No exaggeration.
Was having great fun doing something that could only loosely be described as steering in the snow tonight at speed... I guess even Nitrons can't cure some things (but boy, was it fun doing a 200m slide.
Ought to make some comment here about how lucky whoever buys my car will be. But I'm eating my dinner at the mo, so I'll take a break for once...

JSG Why the three set's of Nitrons?
Car just wasn't feeling hooked up with the first set - just felt as though the front and back were running different game plans! (Still noticeably better than standard shocks, mind) Second set were just the same according to Joolz (I never got to try it with that set on). Third were spot on. Went through 3 different spring rates, too, if I remember correctly (must be about that, as I can't even remember what I ended up sticking with in the end - particularly soft ones, that's for sure)
What can I say... I'm a picky SOB when it comes to my cars!
(Don't think I'll ever beat the four sets of tyres I got through on the Elise in one weekend trying to find a front/rear match I was happy with).Gassing Station | Tuscan | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff

I can`t help with the Nitron question as i don`t have that set up on my car, but i reckon their will be a few posts coming
