I'm about to join the 'Tuscan Club' and have read a lot of the advice on buying a used Tuscan within this forum. Thanks to Tom (TSS) for emailing over his used Tuscan guide. I've found 2 cars I like the look of and would really appreciate any guidance on which the best one to go for is.

They are both 2000 cars.

One is with a well know TVR dealer and has 28500 miles on the clock. It had a full factory engine rebuild in Oct '04 and has the balance of 12 months warranty for the engine from TVR. It's priced at £23950 which seems about £2k over similar cars I've seen at other dealers.

The other is with a non-TVR dealer and has only 8000 miles on the clock. However, it has not had any of the factory engine mods done. It's priced at £21950 and has 1 year's warranty (not sure who with)

I'm leaning to the more expensive car for peace of mind as it's had the engine done, and from this forum it seems that non-TVR warranty is not worth the paper it’s written on, but any advice would be gratefully received.

Is 28500 miles a lot for the other components of the car?

I'm also thinking of getting Rob Ingleby of www.findasportscar.co.uk to inspect it. Has anyone used him and is it worth it?

Thanks

Jason

Based on my own experience when we got a 2001 low mileage well looked after car that needed a rebuild (off the road for 3 months) only 1 month into ownership I would go for the higher mileage car with a recent rebuild...and get an independant inspection on the other components etc

He's a great guy and did a fantastic job for me. If you use the forum search function you should turn up lots of threads about Rob. Probably most threads will be in General TVR.

Higher mileage one, every time! That one's had recent work. You obviously have details of its history. There's no reason why the rest of the car won't last.

TVRs are typically truculent against running impeccably if they're not regularly used! Er, that's it really!

A once over by a TVR specialist will be worth it, though.

Higher mileage one. It's been used, which is good. And has a new engine, which is better. You don't mention the spec, though... anything down to the colour could contribute to determining the price they're asking/offered.

If the cheaper one is in Reading, I looked at a Black one meeting that description (mail me offline) looked OK, BUT a low mileage, 2000, without a rebuild odds are unfortuanetly that it may require one, and is out odf warranty. I did notice only 2-3000 miles inthe last2 years, and a 2 year gap in the servicing.

IF the same car.

Thanks for the respose - I've abandoned the lower mileage car & have booked Rob to check out the other one for me.

Appreciate the advice!
