Hi gang,

right, big confession up front: im a cerbera driver but ive got the same lump as you good folk so im REALLY hoping youll forgive me for having the wrong car. oh go on, pleaaaasee. this is driving me nuts (for which, i used to use a steering wheel)(thats poor, i know i know)..

so then, ive got a stupid, niggling, MIL light warning on my dash that WILL NOT GO AWAY, despite the fact that the car appears to be running just fine. since im still less than a month old in terms of TVR ownership im not yet ready to ignore it, cos well, im scared still really.

can anybody a) suggest what might be causing it (if it helps, it hasnt stopped raining/ snowing/ freezing here for weeks) or b) tell me where i can get a cable that is serial at one end but 3 pin male at the other end so i can plug into the ecu and see whats happening. i am happy to buy one from anyone that can help me, or even paint your house or anything else youd want to get hold of one. or, if anyone can point me in the right direction of what pins from the serial port to take feeds from to make my own cable, ill see if i cant electrocute myself.

i would just pop down to the dealers but theyre about a squillion miles away from me and since its running just fine its seems stoopid to go through the hassle/ expense/incon-weinience for nuthin.

again, my apologies for being an imposter, if it helps i just banged my elbow whilst i wrote this and it really hurt. have i just been smote by karmic debt?

thanks in advance gang,
nervous

Matt,

Congrats on the bairn first - forgot to post on the other thread. Secondly, you've got the wrong car. No, wait that's not what I meant to say... "You really ought to get that to the dealer", that's more like it. Seriously, you don't want to mess around with MIL problems.

The 3 pin thing... is that an external connector on the box-o-tricks? Or have you taken the lid off and taken a look inside. Believe (hence I could be talking garbage) it should have a 9 pin female connector on the ECU box.

oops, caught out for double posting. eek. sorry. thought id get teased here less you see. still, at least no-ones mentioned my haircut on either forum yet so its still a nicer place to be than at home. siiighh.

sadly, the ecu has no plug either inside or out. the only leads connectable to (wording? me no like) are one 3 pin and one 2 pin plug hanging free from the loom next to the ecu. dealer tells me those are the kiddies (but they also told me there would be one inside, hence my hesitance) so apparently wot i need is a serial from the laptop to a 3 pin male plug in the footwell. anyone got a clue?

thanks tho jsg,
nerv.

Sounds like "Paul Smith" at the factory is the man to talk to...

firstly, thanks js, thats really helpful. ill see if i cant get hold of the illusive paul smith. and keep poking him with a stick until he tells me what i need to know.

secondly, i like your wiring diagram better. it matches my footwell layout exactly. you should set yourself as a subcontracter. i know id pay for such clear, concise schematics.

thanks again bud,
n.
