Dealer issues advice ?
Discussion
Just coming up to 1000 mile service on a MK II Tuscan. Phoned the original dealer (bought new) and spoke to service department to book car in and have loan car (live 60 miles away). Gave 2 weeks notice as previously requested. They couldnt give me any dates for at least 6 weeks by which time I'd be well over the 1000 miles. Phoned another dealer (same distance) who can fit me in within the 2 weeks with loan car but said he needed to 'square' it with the dealer I bought the car from. He's just phoned back to say they are causing problems about it (something to do with payment from TVR for tappets I think) and I should speak to them again to 'nudge ' them along !! Surely i'm entitled to book my car in to any TVR authorised dealer for a service if it suits me better. The original dealer was magnificent but the service department was unhelpful. Am I right or do I have to stick with the dealer who sold me the car ? Any idea's gratefully received.
I had this problem with my first service, though not the dealers fault, it would seem that because the first service labour is free of charge only the supplying dealer will do it. If you take it else where you will be charged, unless a deal between dealers can be struck. I was quoted £600 by one dealer. In the end it went back to blackpool to be done, just paid for the oil and a filter, £70 I belive.

I would never name a dealer directly on this web site, but have a search/look at the topic named "got it".
We should name and shame. I am always reay to recommend and name a good dealer. If we do not name the bad ones then they can never resolve their problems.
Whilst I appreciate the sentiment it is not right or fair to drag Ted into this.
The lack of recommendations should be clue enough...

Agree, likewise praise a good dealer up to the hilt.
No one is saying you can't shame just not in print on this website. You can email to put the word about.
There are so many legal implications and you also have to remember that there is always two sides to every story.

Agreed, you cannot just slagg people off. You must always be factual with what you say and not emotional. I belive it is fair to say I had a problem with a dealer and their service. I also praise dealers too.
Well, dealer wouldnt back down so had to drop the car today and organise taxis etc etc !!! Pretty naffed off but when I arrived they were extremely apologetic and couldnt do enough for me. So, we'll see how they perform for the service but just shows I suppose how things can be different day to day !!! Still think you should be able to get the first service at the place which is most suitable for the consumer however.

You're entitled to take the car where you want. But from what has been said, if you don't take it to the supplying dealer (who made the money when they sold you the car), you've got to pay the full normal price for the service, including tappet adjustment.
I bought my Tuscan from a East London dealer and the first service was done in Blackpool...

Why did you pay a labour charge for a first service? You should only pay for consumables.
