Pedal stuck itself to the floor on motorway : scary
Discussion
Driving on the motorway last night, pullout to overtake and floored the loud pedal and it did not return back up.
Was doing 70 and it just carried on accelerating all by itself.
Managed to shift into 5th gear and slow the car down a bit until the next slip road.
As I got to about 10 mph I put it in nuetral and my was still revving towards 6k rpm. Turned it off and using my hand pulled the footpedal back to up. Drove the rest of the way with no issues, but I refrained from pressing the accelerator all the way down.
Anyone had this happen.
Am trying to work out if it's the pedal or throttles that caused this to happen.

I have no idea about TVRs but had the same with an XR2, check that something hasnt worked itself loose where the throttle cable connects to the engine, on the 2 when the throttle was fully open it was enough for something (possibly idle control valve) to slip down behind the throttle cable meaning that the pedal stuck to the floor and stuck accelerating
Yes, fun when that happens!
It will be a sticking throttle cable, most likely caused by fraying at the pedal end. You can usually see with a torch in the foot-well but will need to remove the aluminium plate around the pedals to confirm. If not that, likely sticking at the other end.
Either way you will probably need a new throttle cable.

If you've checked and sure it's not the carpet, which should go underneath the bottom plate of the pedal box anyway, then a frayed cable is the most likely cause as mentioned above. If it needs replacing there is a simple fix to help prevent it happening again.
Whilst down there with the wd40 it is worth checking two more things. Make sure there isn't any grit or small stones interfering with the hinge mechanism. And ensure you have a 'C' clip on the thrust arm shaft, mine sprang off one side and the shaft became half detached.

Has your Tuscan been sat a few weeks?
My Mk1 used to have a similar problem.
It was corrosion on the bushings of the shaft in the pedal box.
WD40 will loosen it but it really needs stripping and cleaning.
I used to flick the brake pedal to release the throttle.
I used to use it as my TVR Cruise control
My Mk2 started doing it last year but that turned out to be a very frayed cable.
