Anyone know how much standard Tuscan drilled disks are and if they are a straight swap for the early non-drilled ones.

James - how much was the upgrade to S spec braking?

Cheers.

Avoid drilled discs if you're at all serious about fast driving.

Mine grumble and vibrate a bit when they get hot and from reading a few things I thought it may be down to the solid disks.

What would you suggest Julian?

and I thought I used the forum at silly times of the day!

Just curious as to why? Is it because there is less area for the brake pads to grip?

Thankfully the brakes were one thing that came sorted on the car when I got it, so I didn't have to cost up/cough up for those! Think the Tuscan RR/S brakes are 4.5 Cerby ones...

The reason I've always been led to believe is due to the drilling process weakening the discs, making it more susceptible to cracks/fractures/warping when hot/stressed.....such as heavy braking when you're hammering the cr*p out of your car!!

In normal cast discs, the molecules in the metal are all nicely aligned in a uniform lattice structure (if I recall my Physics lessons correctly). By drilling such discs, you're taking this 'perfect' layout and tearing holes through it. Not the best!

I have no idea if any discs are cast WITH holes (and then finished by drilling), and perhaps the better drilled discs on the market have some sort of special treatments to toughen them up. Not honestly sure.

The reduced contact area won't matter much, and I believe the holes are there to vent gas built up at the pad face under braking.

Try EBC ceramic redstuff pads, cured my rumble probs and fading etc. Fantastic pads, but I know some people on the forum dont like them

TVR use AP Racing callipers and rotors which are about the best help you can get as OEM fit items. Had a chat with them at the Motorsport show and was very impressed.

All you need for S-Spec braking is a spacer for the calliper and the bigger discs. If you need to replace these anyway I would have thought there is a small increment over the normal items.

The disc for the RR are the same as the Cerbra 4.5 & a lot more expensive than the standard disc. I don't think the standard un-drilled disk are available any more.

hmm yeh. Ran greens all the time on my 300zx. Reds are for 'track use only'.... I found my greens fine on the road though even they needed a good prod when cold. I was told by EBC to not even think about reds for the road...pretty much no stopping power until hot...I'd have though any serious road accident with reds fitted could result in an investigation too ??

just my 2c.

Cheers for the heads up Stu. EBC have changed the spec on RED STUFF and are now for FAST ROAD CARS, and have a new pad for the track, see the url below

I had to check and see, which was worth it... The AP pads I had on the car were complete pile of shite...

AP don't make brake pads

I've had ferodo pads with AP Racing stamped on the back but they weren't made by AP, I assume either they are stamped simply to show the caliper they fit or that AP supply the backing plate as a blank?

Ferodo are one of the pad suppliers to AP, which are then sold as AP pads. I guess they spec their own compound.

ah right. makes sense. They were probably getting loads of nutters fitting reds to their cars. sounds like they maybe made greens reds and reds track pads.

I'll bear them in find for 666 when the time comes. Thought it'd only be more less brake dust...brakes are great. What the dust like off the reds ? the greens were pretty good. really low dust. Them and mintex 1144s(?) were what I liked best on 300.

Stu, the thing I really missed from 666 were the brakes. The t350 brakes were shite compared to the Tuscan. I honestly would compare them to a 1.1ltr Fiesta I had when I was 18.

The redstuff now give me the 666 brakes back. As for the dust, there doesn't seem to be too much, but I have anthracite wheel dont forget, might be a different kettle of fish with silver.

I had the Ferodo (AP) jobbies before. Horrid, just horrid...

Are the T350 brakes the same as the standard Tuscan?
