Sounds like the vent hose has come off the control box which is below the dash board on the passenger side.

This behaviour is by design

The steering wheel vents are cold air only. When you put the heater control on hot, the valves don't direct any air from the blower to those vents.

At least that's how mine works anyway!

I see. The genius that thought of that, clearly had his brainwave before he was told it was a convertible....

I'll check under the passenger side just in case.

Yeah, mine's the same. I was thinking of posting this but you beat me to it. Didn't think there was anything wrong, just assumed it was by design. To make matters worse, the binnacle eyeballs are really stiff and thus difficult to close when it's cold outside...

On a slightly different tack, do you find that in order to get the heating system to work, you have to actually change the temperature and/or fan setting after starting the car? Put another way, mine doesn't do anything until I change a setting whereupon it starts to work (albeit usually after an astronomical delay).

Yes, it doesn't re-evaluate the position of all the heating controls at startup. Everything seems to start up in the off/cold position. Just shabby design of the heater ECU if you ask me!

design ? it was never designed surely.

yeh, mine used to not work at all until I turned the windscreen wipers on.

now got a new ECU in it, and now I get this...I don't get cold air coming out when it's on hot though, I get no air. kinda bugging...I like having the roof off and in the evening my feet are roasting, and I can reach out and feel the gallons of toasty hot air pissing out the top of the dash onto the windscreen and into space ,while my face and hands freeze over...

My car blows out hot air from the hot setting (and most of the way to the cold setting!!) and cool air on the cold setting, it does this from startup (allowing for the engine to warm up of course) and doesn't need any twiddles to get it working - maybe mine is the broken one
