I am looking into purchasing a year's warranty for my 2001 Tuscan...I was initially quoted about £730 from my dealer...I remember it would cost me about £400 to extend my initial 6 month warranty to a year (I wish I had, my clutch and flywheel cost me almost 2K, a month after my warranty expired!).

I am now being quoted £1100+VAT for cover up to £2000 and £1400+VAT for cover up to £5000 (which would cover an engine rebuild at 4.5K fully)for the "new, extensive warranty". Like most things for Tuscans, the price seems to have strangely gone up in the space of days...

The car has had most things done to it and a recent major service, but I suppose with a warranty I would sleep easier at night...but not at almost 2K!

I feel these quotes (from TVR dealer) are extortionate...

Any suggestions out there?

Many thanks

Just out of interest - what warranty company are they using?

There comes a point where you need to go the self-insure route!

Option 3c: Stick the premium money in a Building Society, not on the warranty company's bottom line!!!

Agreed. Self-insurance means that if you make no claims, you still keep the premium.

You will have to make a decision made on the probability of what else is most likely to go wrong. So if you have had the clutch and flywheel done, they are not so likely to happen again. Of course, the mileage you do will also impact the liklihood of problems - working on the basis that more use = more wear. (not that under use isn't a problem either in some cases).

Giving away £2K is alot of money to buy piece of mind for £5K - and even then there is a chance that a warranty company will refuse to pay up.
