Anyone know how to turn down the lighting on the dash display, it seems far to bright on unlit roads

on mine i go into the settings, then go to contrast and you can adjust from 1-9 the contrast
Sorry, are we talking MK1 or MK2?
My mk1 has a small dial to dim the display - it's on the left hand side of the instrument binacle, opposite the variable wiper control.
The only problem with mine is that it changes the brightness of the speedo, but not the central display or fuel/temperature gauges.

Mk1 ...Nope just checked, no adjuster. Anyone know if it's a simple mod to the lighting feed for the dash, I assume its just a back lit LCD display?
