As per the title really.

I am looking at the options to do an upgrade on the car's suspension and really get it set up well to cope with the undulating moorland roads of West Yorkshire. I hear lots about Nitrons on here, but nothing about Ohlins at all from Tuscan owners.

I know one chap who has just got them on his Griff - and he says they have made a fantastic difference to the point that he is signing up for more and more track days. Track days aren't necessarily my thing, but I would like a car that drives as good as it looks.

So, I have heard enough about Nitrons, but anyone here got the "ultimate" Ohlin set up on their P&J?

Have a look in the cerby forum archives as I think someone on there ran them. What about Penske?

Well, just doing the research now. General info that I have picked up is that they are obviously more expensive than nitrons and considered to be marginally better for the premium - although probably not as good value for money. I am also hearing that they are reliable and consistent in their performance, but like all good suspension, it needs setting up by someone who knows what they are doing. Looks to be about £2K all in.

Penske - I understand also have a premium reputation, but not seen anything about use on road going TVRs.

i'd try Racing Green (who have a car for sale on their website with ohlins) TVR Power who have them on their website, or Joolz. I had Ohlins on my cerbera (now rebuilt and and resident on my 4.5bv griff. they're ace, but by all accounts so are the nitrons (which in 2 way adjustable form are similar price to ohlins), and Joolz for one knows an awful lot abot getting those to work well on tvrs.

TVR Centre used to fit them a few years back. Giles Cooper the boss is the man to talk to about them, although I think they may now fit the nitrons.

cheers

SFR Engineering - Shane fits Ohlins to TVRs, he's an ex factory racing engineer.

Hi guys,

Just looking for feedback on Ohlins really. I know where I can get them - just that there obviously not as many cars around with them as Nitrons, probably because the Nitrons are quite a bit less expensive. I am looking to find the pros and cons of justifying the extra expenditure on Ohlins, really from someone who has got them. Obviously, I doubt I am going to find anyone who has experience of running both on their cars (for a straight comparision and unbiased). I will check the Tuscan link out - many thanks for that.

Hi guys , i have Ohlins and have used leda's and Nitrons in the past and they are ok .I did find they required hi pound springs to work ,ie 360 420bl not so good, plus you think they are better than the stock units. But infact all thats making if feel better is the wheel alingement, which is set to toe out to make it feel better, so if you apply that toe out setting on standard units you will find there is no real differance to the nitrons (slight con)but if your not a trackday nutter stay with standard and go for the less nervous wheel alingment £50
Ohlins will be worth every penny if you really want the best driving car full stop not just TVRs,also car rides on the road smoother than the standard car, as it runs softer springs and has better damper contol.

Dreadnought tvr 01877 331 099 can fit and supply single or two way adjustable Ohlins.

Im having Nitrons fitted next week by Topcats. The Nitron package i chose was pound for pound cheaper than the Ohlin equivalent. Although Ohlins are one of the best Nitrons are just as good at my level and ive
heard you can no longer get ohlins re built in this country whether thats true or not im not sure.

I think both are as good as each other, maybe Ohlin has the edge on the kudos front.

Ohlins, if set up correctly, should be a little better than Nitrons. You're talking a percentage increase, though, rather than the order of magnitude from standard to Nitrons. Personally couldn't justify the extra expense, especially given how many stories I've heard of how much trouble they are to set up correctly. I know SFR really rates the Ohlins (to the point of slagging off my Nitrons as being worse than factory spec), but I found the Nitrons sorted the car beautifully.

Hope that helps...

I'm not really as interested in the Nitrons to be honest, but am keen to hear from anyone who's had Ohlins fitted.

Ed,
I didn't go for the Ohlins in the end, but I was attracted to them by a Griff owner I know who really rates them. However, they do seem to be more labour intensive in setting them up to get the best out of them.

If you are interested, they may be purchased directly from their UK importer, Aurok. I think their www is aurok.com. IIRC looking at around £1600 for the dampers, plus the fitting of course.

I, like many, went the Nitron route in the end as they are more than good enough for my needs and at around £1000 + fitting offered that extra incentive of value. I guess though if you really want the best then Ohlins or Penske are the way to go. Ohlins I believe have had a Tuscan shipped to Sweden before now to develop the kit for them..so should be very good.
