Dash volt reading please

Could someone please do me a favour and let me know what voltage their car shows when the ignition is first turned on. My starter has begun to not engage properly again and I'm trying to work out whether it's battery related.

12.3. I recently had problems starting mine until it wouldn't start at all (5.00pm in a multi-storey 30 minutes before they closed the shutters for the night ) The battery showed 11.9 then. I have sinced changed the battery (what a bloddy awkward job!!!).

Thanks all. I guess it looks like the starter is on the way out as my (not very old) battery shows 12.4-12.5v

Your problem might be the cable from the battery to the starter. If this corrodes then not enough juice gets through!

TBH I've been having a lot of grief with the charging side of things since my last service. The 100 amp fuse connection was loose, so it could well be that the connection to the starter is dodgy too. Another weekend with the bonnet off coming up I think. It'll give me a chance to tighten up the new alt belt properly too.
