Just bought a new gear knob from Leven to replace the original round type on my Tuscan... I've tried to twist it off but no luck (oooerrr missus)& I don't want to force it. There is a collar beneath the knob but that won't shift either...

procedure anyone? :idea::wobble:

Podie, feel free to make fun here - ............

Mole grips will do it, the collar is there to lock it in place.

if you don't want to keep it you'll wreck the knob if you use mole's (some idiot put mine on with thread lock!) anti clockwise thread

Try a duster under the mole grips to protect the knob, they're bloody tight.

If the mole grips don't work and your gonna chew the (ahem.....) knob. Cut a piece of rubber car mat wrap it round the knob and use a set of stillsons...this will likely do the job without knackering the knob.....

Thanks guys... I have already tried mole grips & chewed the metal a bit...

Just to confirm - is it a normal anti-clockwise to undo thread? And how do you remove the collar, it seems to tighten whichever way I turn it, or is it a push-up taper or something...

might be wrong here, but does the gearknob not have a little hole in the side of it with a grub screw that locks it onto the shaft....... use small allen key to loosen then unscrew,,,

scottie...

Try holding the collar with one set and turning the knob with the other. If that doesn't shift it???

I just nearly imploded with supressed innuendo after reading this thread.

Hope you've sorted it by tomorrow.

Don't want you fiddling with your knob in the pub car park

Hope this isn't too late - been away for a bit.

There is a small collar under the knob, and this needs to be turned clockwise before you can loosen the knob by turning anti-clockwise.

Mine has the opposite problem - it's always coming loose
