Hi all,

Happy Easter.

I know this topic has been done to death, however I have always been of the opinion that the T350/Tamora makes a much better noise than the Tuscan. Is this purely end can related or is the entire exhaust design different? So far I have tried the following options with the Tuscan, which for the record is a 2004 MK2 S.

Standard cans, decat - sounds ok but too "breathy", overrun pops and bangs very muted
Full sleeved standard cans, decat - too crass to the point of embarrassment
Racetech unsilenced "loud" cans, decat - terrible vibration/buzzing noise on overrun from 2.5k down to 2k or so, sounds awful. Checked the full system and no other cause for the vibration
Standard half sleeved cans, decat - can't detect any difference from just standard cans

Effectively what I'm after is to have the machine gun fire overrun but whilst not sounding ludicrously loud at all revs and all throttle inputs. My old T350T achieved this perfectly but I just can't get the Tuscan sounding the way I want it to.

PS - I don't want to try options with cats fitted, for a variety of reasons.

Rob

I had a mk2 S and went through similar and had also tried a zillion different variations both catted and decat. Ended up settled with a decat, full ACT system (custom request with the backboxes made with perf pipe and wadding inside) and powertech fully sleeved cans.
The result was one where i could pootle around in low rpm and it was just a low rumble but without any booming, and not too much louder than std until you get above 3k rpm, then it almost acted like a valve had been opened and the volume is much higher and it turns into a proper speed6.

Hopefully the link will work:

The day the car left just to compare to v.low rpm:

Thanks for that. I don't have Facebook so I can't view your videos, however I may well try the ACT exhaust as it's that Tuscan tinniness which I don't especially like. The T350s/Tams have a bassier sound to them which is more appealing.

I have the ACT big bore system with their Sharknose cans on the Tuscan. It's a deeper sound lower down, not intrusive on the motorway cruise, but suitably loud when pushing on. Happy I went with this option - was recommended and fitted by Str8six.

Pops and bangs are a tad muted, but I still have cats installed.

I went for a custom request - 3/4 sleeved cans via powertech oneBay.
This paired with my decat suits me very well

Sorry I started another thread with the identical title so maybe posting here would be better.

I want to repack my tatty sleeved small diameter end cans with some new ones. My car is decatted and is loud, the pops and bangs are like machine gun fire. I want to mute them down a bit while still keeping the quality the same. Would the powertech end cans either standard or 50/75% standard help with that? Or should I go for either the ACT big bore system, or the ACT rear silencers and new cans?
