Hi,
1. Position 2, all live, pump turns

2. Position 3, loud click, no cranking, back to position 2

3. Repeat step 2. between 3-10 (or so) times, cranks and fires up immediately

Suspect the solenoid - is this an easy to find and replace part?

Should I take it out, disassemble, clean and replace or is it non-user-serviceable ?

Cheers

Stop suspecting solenoid
The solenoids pull-in winding earths through the motor. Are you sure the solenoid is pulling in ok and have you checked if the solenoid cap contacts are making?
You have surely already proved that the earth and supply are both good

Sounds like it needs a new starter. I get this if I don't use the car much. The suggested replacement is a BMW unit. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272282014019?fbclid=IwA...

First check that the solenoid terminal is clean and rust free.

Mine had been doing that for a while, when I took it out of hibernation it clicked about four or five times. Just had it’s annual service and a new starter was fitted.

Just a quick update, its stopped doing that and its fine now - maybe just 'winter blues' needed blowing away :-)

I will be keeping an eye on it, thanks for the advice

Mine did it again after 6 months SORN. Now I’m using her, it’s stopped. I’m sure it’s just a sticky starter from lack of use.

I’ve got to say this...
Every year there are the same posts “pulled the Tvr out of its winter hibernation and this fell off/doesn’t work/etc”

I’ve never SORN’d mine, each week i’ll run it around the block on a dry day. Never let me down, never had a problem.
They need to keep being used, else the £70 you saved on SORNing is a false saving
