ACT exhaust opinions
Discussion
Hi all
I’ve just fitted new powertech end cans to replace my crappy old ones. 50% sleeved and they sound great and the tone is what I was looking for. However my back boxes are looking a little worse for wear and have been welded a number of times which has pushed them out of alignment.
I’m looking at either the ACT big bore system from the decats back, or the ACT silences that they sell on their own.
Has anyone fitted either of these that can give any opinions? I assume that with the silencer option you have to cut the exhaust and clamp these on but not sure.
Thanks.

I bought the ACT exhaust earlier this year, but hadn't seen/looked at the silencers. Each pipe is in 2 pieces with the joint about a foot behind the silencer; on an earlier car it also had big-bore but there was no join. I run mine with cats and with un-sleeved cans and barely meet the noise regs over here (82 decibel limit and I'm at about 82...), but removing the sleeve totally killed the rasp (which I'm fine with!).
I'd give Tim at ACT a call and discuss the options - they normally seem pretty flexible about what they can supply, so maybe they could make whatever you want ready to fit together without cutting/etc.

If I buy the big bore I don’t mint the way it fits. How does it sound?
For the rear silencers, it does look like you need to cut the existing pipe just after the first 90 degree bend. I don’t mind doing that I just would like to know if that’s the case and also what the rear silencers sound like.

Fitted an ACT big bore, decat with standard cans, a much better deeper tone but a bit disappointed that it was quieter than standard. I then lost a can on the motorway (hope nobody was too close behind me) and replaced both with a pair of fully sleeved cans and couldn’t believe the difference. It’s certainly loud and on B roads the pops and bangs are epic but sometimes a little too much??? I think you would be pretty pleased with the ACT, decats and your half sleeved cans.
