I have a 3 year warranty on my 2000 Tuscan, One of the cats has burntout/boiled or whatever. Discovered at service today. The warranty will pay for a new one. The dealer has helpfully suggested replacing both with stainless steel partial cats. They will do a deal... what should I pay. They will talk turkey tomorrow. What price is a cat? I am assured the replacements will sound/perform better..In ignorance I wonder what to do and how much is reasonable.

Simple - Take the existing cats, scoop the middles out of them & bolt them back onto the engine. Then, get a de-cat chip and some CCC cans

Trust me - you'll never look back......

How much does that cost and will it pass an MOT next year?

Not too sure about the de-cat cost (as it was done before I got the car), but the CCC's are about £4-500 for the pair.

See this thread www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=175505&f=5&h=0 and look to the end for MOT results....

De cat pipes are around £150, ccc cans start (stainless steel) for £230 (ish)
