A few thoughts - Please help

Been done to death in various ways but still could do with some help.
I so want to buy a Tuscan, preferably an S (budget 25-30k), but cannot cope with engine drama's and hassle so here are a few questions.
1. Is an S (51 plate) or any S for that matter less likely to have a major meltdown than a standard 4.0
2. Does having a warranty cover the engine probs and so erradicate the problem/concerns (ie if it does blow up someone else pays)
3. If the finger followers are the cause of all problems, why haven't owners had these replaced as a precaution before it does explode. It must be a lot easier and cheaper for a little top end work than a full stripdown and rebuild.
4. If the worst does happen what are the symptoms? Does it just stop dead or does it carry on going but running/sounding like a bag of spanners?

probably

yes - get a good warranty though with a decent limit
3. If the finger followers are the cause of all problems, why haven't owners had these replaced as a precaution before it does explode. It must be a lot easier and cheaper for a little top end work than a full stripdown and rebuild.
It dosent 'explode' all that happens is it gets rattly - it will cost just as much to have them all replaced up-front as it would for a top end re-uild as and when it happens
4. If the worst does happen what are the symptoms? Does it just stop dead or does it carry on going but running/sounding like a bag of spanners?
OUrs just got very tappety - took it to dealers, diagnosed 2 followers worn out, the rest on their way..up to factory for top end rebuild ...10K miles later and its running better than ever

So the top end breaks and goes back to TVR. What's the cost of this? I've seen figures from a grand to 7k. What can cost 7k at the top end of a six cylinder engine?
Because the bits of follower travel round the engine in the oil/drop down through the valves they can damage all the bearings, score the bores etc, leading to a full rebuild hence the variation in cost.
You need to do a good search through the archives as the issues are not as simple as just the finger followers wearing.
