Just upgrading Tuscan 1 to a Tuscan 2 and the insurance company want a tracker fitted to the car now. Does anyone know of a low cost cat1 or 2 approved tracker system?

Looking at the various prices I'm sure the insurance companies have shares in Tracker and are seeking to increase the cost of my new toy by £500!

I had to get a tracker fitted when I upgraded from my Mk 1 Tuscan to a Sagaris. Fairly pointless IMHO. TVR’s aren’t stolen that often. A stolen Sagaris or Tuscan is rather conspicuous and difficult sell. And the last expensive tracking system I had (on an Impreza) was a total waste of money because it didn’t actually work when the car got nicked! (Fortunately for me it was stolen from a dealer just after I sold it).

Anyway, the cheapest insurance approved system I found for the Sagaris was an RAC Trackstar Plus from Micro Technics in Leicestershire: £359.99 including VAT and fitting. Their number is 0800 542 1501. They seem very efficient and turned up to fit it on time. The subscription is £10p/m and another £4.50p/m for European cover.

Hmmm - nice Sagaris ! Looks like you got it from Silverstone TVR from the photo. How's it running ?

When I get home I will email you details of mine which I too had to have for insurance purposes. I agree waste of money but must admit it works. I was rung within minutes of my car going on a trailer. I'd forgotten I had it.
I think mine cost around £700, but I will confirm later.

It’s going really well. Silverstone sorted out a few trim niggles and a duff oil pressure sender at the first service and everything else seems pretty well put together. The handling is fantastic and the speeds that can be attained on A and B roads are, erm… interesting! The close ratio gearbox is taking me a little time to adjust to – most overtaking of dawdling numpties is done in 1st and second rather than 2nd and 3rd, and it’s much more stable under acceleration than my Tuscan.

Overall I’m very pleased with it as you can probably tell!

DrDave, not sure why you're smiling: you've just hit the car in front and there's a tree growing out of your, er, trunk.

I was told I needed a tracker to insure my Mk 2 Tuscan by several insurance companies but then I called Privilege who required no such device fitted and quoted me cheaper than for my then current Integra Type R ! Pays to shop around maybe.

I'm with Privilege, they claimed they insist on a tracket for cars over £50K.

I've just spoken to Privledge and for all cars >£40k they require a tracker and will not pay for it themselves........... no new business for them then! Off to try the next insurance company.
