Wing Mirrors Given Up!

I know this has been covered here somewhere before but can't find the answers anywhere...
The wing mirrors on my Mk1 have stopped working, the demist button works but neither will move, is there any point in taking the door panel off and having a fiddle, or should I just reach for credit card and take it up to the dealer?
