Discussion
im thinking of buying a second hand tuscan in a couple of months but i am a bit confused about witch engine is witch. am i right in saying that the 4.0ltr engine is the tuscan s with 390bhp and the 3.6ltr engine is is the normal speed6 with 360bhp. I am looking at spending around 23k and want to buy a tuscan s but on alot of adds on the trader and on here they just say 4.0ltr are these cars all tuscan s.

IIRC not all 4.0lts are 'S'. In fact my log book states a 4.0 ltr. but it's a 3.6 so on that score NO not all 4.0's are S's.
Not 100% sure on dates, but you will find them on here using the search function.
When the Tuscan was launched a single model was available:
The 'bog standard' had a 4.0 360bhp lump.
The 'S' following in 2001 and had a 4.0 390bhp lump. The 'S' also has bigger brakes, adjustable shocks and air-con as standard. Most noticeably, the S had a front lip spoiler and a rear spoiler, as well as a different rear light arrangement (including moving the windscreen mounted indicators to the boot).
Before the 'S' was launched, the Tuscan 'Red Rose' was a standard Tuscan with all the 'S' features, except it remained in a standard body. If I recall correctly it had a quoted 380bhp output and was available from around 1999(?).
Around 2002 (with the T350 and Tamora launch), the standard Tuscan changed to a 3.6 litre 350bhp version of the Speed Six that I understand revs slightly higher.
Of couse, many standard Tuscan's now have air-con fitted, and many now have Nitron or similar aftermarket suspension, and some will have bigger brakes now too. Some will also have 'S' spec engines following a near inevitable trip to Blackpool.
IMHO the 'S' looks better, but I'm biased as I own one, and I think I'm in the minority as many feel the 'spoilers' do literally do just that to the look of the car.

so what would the power be on a 4.0ltr that is not a s
They quoted 350, but the truth is anyone's guess!!
So did I get my 350bhp and 360bhp models mixed up above?
So the standard 4.0 is 350bhp, and the 3.6 is 360bhp? I thought it was the other way around?
The reality however is that it makes naff all difference on the road.
Year 2000-2001 (pre Tuscan S)
Models: Standard 4.0 360 bhp
Red Rose: 4.0 380 bhp
2002 (thereabouts!)
Models: Standard 3.6 350 bhp
S: 4.0 390 bhp
2004-
Models: Standard 3.6 350 bhp as before
S: 4.0 400 bhp, and some now quoting 405 bhp
Edited to say you won't get a Tuscan S for £23K, not unless it has been accident repaired.
