Hi

Just purchased a Tuscan (early 4ltr car) three ago and have found out the hard way if you don't start it everyday that it won't start. LCD states 9.5 volts. After trying to attach jump leads to the battery it still won't start although it now reads 13.5 volts.

I read about a booster cable. I don't seem to have this. Where can i purchase this and other spare for a tuscan (interior and exterior bits).

Thanks

Thanks for the full list of diagnostic codes.

Although the knowledge that my Tuscan is concerned about an "Erratic road speed signal input" (Code 'L')doesn't really leave me much the wiser ! Still, doesn't sound like anything to worry about !!

Sounds like the battery may be on the way out.

Three to check/do on Tuscans, especially more than a couple of years old.

1. replace the battery
2. check/replace earth strap: get to this by removing front offside (drivers) wheel. Earth strap goes between gear box/block and the chassis. Often worth removing it, carefully cleaning the contact points behind the strap to get a good earth. If the earth is poor, your electrics will all probably appear normal (good voltage), but the starter just cannot get the current it needs to get going
3. change the ignition coil fuse for a 20A one. This was originally a 7.5A, sometime later upgraded for a 15A as a bulleting item by the factory, and now 20A. If this goes, your car will crank normally, but never catch.

I can't say the above will necessarily solve your problem (it may be 1 or 2?), but to mitigate against future problems, it is well worth doing them before they do turn into problems! This would be inevitable from my experience and those of others on here.

Keep us posted as to how you get on.

Booster cables and Accumate trickle charger (highly recommended) available mail order from Leven Technology - very helpful people who will look after you well if you give them a call.

it should be able to stand for about 10 days to 2 weeks without being started so sounds like you need a new battery.

Hi

If battery goes flat then the imobiliser will kick in when you attach power. You need to reset the imobilizer, I can advise on this if you contact me by e-mail.
