Anyone out there bought a cat 'd' tuscan? Is it advisable to steer clear of such a car? Does cat 'd' mean superficial bodywork damage, or is worse than that? Forgive my naiviety on the subject!
Thanks.

Cat A - D are all where it was classed as a write-off, just varying degrees of damage. A & B cannot be rebuilt into road-worthy cars (but Cat B cars can have parts salvaged, if I remember rightly). Cat C & D cars can be repaired for the road, but it was considered uneconomical to do so/insurer or insured chose not to do so.

There's nothing to say a Cat D repaired car will be any better or worse than a "straight" one. You'll have a LOT more trouble selling it on, though, when the time comes. Personally wouldn't bother for the hassle unless you're getting at least 25% off the price of a similar non-pranged car.

I don't think it would take much to write a tuscan off. Mine had what was basically a very bad scrape down the side and the bill was over 7 grand.

Agree with James though, you would have to get a pretty big discount to make it worthwhile. Tuscans are hard enough to shift without cat tags.
