I'm off to France in two weeks on the above ferry with the Tuscan S.

I know ferries have different ground clearance requirements, or the need for climbing round ramps in circles!

Has anyone taken their car on a Condor fast ferry - and did all go OK?

Cheers!

Adrian,
Been the Condor route both ways quite a few times, never been a problem as the Condor slipways have been perfect on both high & low tides, care must be taken as to how heavy the boot load is? if you have to disembark on low tides, check what the tide level will be? tell the company what ground clearance you have, they WILL sort it for you.
Enjoy the trip,

Best Regards,

James Sim.

Thanks James. I suspect the boot will be heavier on the return journey!!

Due to the amazing amount of space in the Tuscan boot, it is easy to forget the weight of several dozen bottles. Believe me - I speak from experience
If the car is really dragging its rear on the floor and a problem driving onto the ferry, see if your passenger is prepared to walk onto the vessel and you can spread some of the bottles on their seat and in the footwell.
Solves the weight problem - might land you in the divorce court but it's worth a shot?

I seem to remember a SEAC having a problem, however I have never know even a fully laden Tuscan having a problem on any of the Le Mans trips. Even standard S seem to be OK. If you are worried mention it to one of the guys doing the loading/unloading.

The only probblem I have encountered has been trying to get round the corners. I always mention to the car behind that the turning circle is not the best and I may have to reverse so please give me some room. It is possible to get round in one but you have to be close to the edge and get the turn in point right to do it first time.

Just phoned Condor Ferries. They are going to provide special "low clearance" ramps and also reserve me a place on the lower deck so access and exit will be straightforward - bless them!!

That'll mean a few extra crates on the return then....

Interesting response that Tuscans seem to get from ferry staff.
I used Speed Ferries to Boulogne a few weeks ago and had not phoned for any special attention - just turned up.
At both Dover and Bologne, as soon as I drove onto the vessel, a crew member jumped out, stopped the other vehicles and directed me to pole position on the lower deck by the doors. They then continued to direct the other vehicles on the usual torturous route to higher levels.
Again, both times the car became the centre of attention for several crew members.
I LOVE MY TUSCAN

It will.

I have used Brittant ferries and Eurotunnel loads of times with and without several cases of Scotch, Brandy, Wine etc. Never a problem.

Just come back from Calais on a seacat, if they are the same boat they can adjust the ramp on boarding if advised of low clearance. Also if you request to be loaded last you will stay on the loading deck without having to go up the onboard ramps, this also means that if they have their act together you will be one of the first off. Enjoy your hols.

Returned from a very interesting trip around France and down to spain yesterday...no problems on the ferry - got "pulled out" of the queue on both trips and made to feel very special by being allocated a more convenient parking space.

As others have said on here, Tuscans are not common in France! We felt like celebrities EVERYWHERE we went, lost count of how many photos were taken of us, and thmbs up etc etc.

The only downside was me misjudging leaving a parking space 20 miles south of St Malo. Took off and then drove straight over the cerb. No damage to tyres/wheels or the front/rear sills, but the lowest part (just behind the drivers door) took a clout and suffered a little. The bootfull of beer and wine couldn't have helped.

The GRP seems to have been scratched quite deeply and a small split is also evident. Its underneath so not that noticeable.

Any tips on what product can patch this up? I don't think it needs professional attention but any advice appreciated.....

Adrian
