What car next?
Discussion
At the Tuscaneers meet, the fair Lady Wendy (Mrs Red Rose) posed the question whilst looking around Gaydon, "What car is next on your list?". A very good question I thought, but I had no answer to hand.
This question was particularly hard because one of the things I love about my Tuscan is the interior and that sense if occasion and the futuristic avantgarde styling.
So... what would everyone have as their next car if TVRs were excluded???? (yes, it has to be given more thought that getting another one!). What is everyone lusting after as their P&J of the future - that would fill a Tuscan shaped void in the garage?

I would hate to be without my Tuscan and to be honest I don't fancy any other affordable 2 seater cars ie boxter,TT,BMW they just don't have the presence that a TVR has.
I suppose if I was pushed I would go for a Noble but I think they look a bit Kit-carish.
If I was to go out and buy a car right now I don't think I would go past a Sagaris...

I know what you mean - that's why I am searching for the answer to this question. To be honest, I don't think I would have another Tuscan. The one I have has been fine and getting another would not really bring me any benefit. That's why I am wondering, what else could deliver a similar package for similar money?
I have driven a Noble and it was an absolute hoot. Fast, good looking and probably the best handling car I have ever had the pleasure to pilot. Downsides are that it is mundane on the inside and offers little luggage space. Maseratis look very sexy to me, but they have some rather expensive relaibility niggles attached to them. And not wishing to own a car to just make my local dealer richer than in his wildest dreams...

I have been thinking this myself recently. I can't think of any other 2 seaters I would want apart from a TVR. I have been toying with the idea of a Vauxhall Monaro, especially the 6.0 VXR. Not the prettiest car in the world and it is a Vauxhall, but with 400 BHP it is going to be a bit of a hoot.
Instead of the tuscan I would have;
A Nissan Micra .......opps that if I was being very sensible and thinking about things such as MPGs
Money being no object it would have to be an Aston Martin DB9
Buts since money does not grow on trees (well! not the ones in my garden)
I would have great problems deciding what to have.
Once you have had something like a Tuscan
, everything else does seem to look rather .....Ordinary!.
I quite like the New SLK AMG (but could only stretch to the 350)

I think the only thing that gets my juices flowing over my tusc is another curvy, fast, powerful n noisy beast that is the Viper. Just a bugger that they're crap inside n the wheel is on the wrong side of the dash.
Just had another thought. Some crazy supercharged muscle car would be pretty cool also.

I know what you mean about the Viper. Its Angelina Jolie on the outside and Davina Macall on the inside. Still, a V10 jobby would be quite nice.
It does get you thinking about American 'muscle cars' though. e.g. Corvette and the new Mustang. In fact, that new Mustang looks nice as a coupe and as a convertible IMHO. They both have a bot of that special presence about them - eben if the steering wheel is on the wrong side.

Good point re the Mustang - I imported my 2000 GT as an insurance policy in case the Tuscan engine needed repair (which it regrettably did and rather quickly). Mustang has great road presence, especially with rumbling flowmaster mufflers...but Tuscan is still that little extra special and certainly gives me more confidence into corners!
Other options - Marcos is very impressive and the 5.7li V8 on show at Goodwood was superb. Their customer service was also very positive - spending 20 mins explaining the product and generally highlighting the lack of any real TVR representation at the show

XKR for 12-24 months whilst saving up for something really special.
Alternatives for most people (what would I know - I'm in pipe & slippers territory now)... Marcos TSO (GT2), Aero 8, one of the upcoming new "crop" from Melling, Murray, etc, or any of the new Jaguar coupe if that arrives next year, same for the Chrysler Firepower and the Audi R9 if "hardcore" is out of fashion.

I'm about to leave the Tuscan club and buy a Range Rover. There's nothing to compare to a Tuscan really... everything else will feel like driving a wet sponge, I reckon.
So why not go the whole hog, get a really slow car but with awesome space and luxury levels?
I await the ear-bashing...

Hmmm M5 - I do like those.
There is something very appealing about a "Q" type car. Big saloon, nice comfortable interior and all mod cons - but can still go like the clappers when necessary.
I remember when I had my 4.0 Chimaera, I thought it one of the fastest things on the road with an alleged 240 bhp - but you can get an Astra with that now (and probably a real 240 bhp!). It seems that there are quite a few cars hot on the heels of the 350bhp-400bhp that Tuscans make. OK, they are going to be alot heavier in many cases - but shish...400 bhp is still alot of power, in most cars!
