Anyone aware if these things are available anywhere?

Just back from a euro trip and couldn’t hold the gear knob at times such was the temperature.

Cheers

Graham Varley got some "resin" gear sticks made years ago, don't know nowadays Dom @ Powers would be my first enquiry. Other simple option tried are heat resistant washes between the stick and the knob, don't know if it works.
I tend to cover my knob when parked up with the roof off , the European temperatures recently would have produced as much heat as the gearbox smile

If you do find a solution I'd be interested as well.

My first port of call will be to reattach the gaitor to the tunnel. The heat wafting through the hole allows both sides of your hand to be cooked!

Be wise carrying sun screen too, wouldn't want a burnt knob.

I thought the fix was a fiber washer ???

used to have the same problem in my Mk1 Tuscan but Ian at TorqueRVT fixed it.
Sadly not with us to ask now.

My Convertible doesn't have the problem and it has the Alli knob so there must be something.

Ive decided replacing gearbox/ Dif and engine oil on a regular basis regardless of mileage works best for me on my Chim.
If your gear lever is very warm on long motorway runs I’d start with the oil.
I can’t remember what the service interval is off hand but like my engine oil and based on yearly use around 4000 miles or so replacing the oils is the best medicine.
It’s inevitable if your pushing all the hp through it’s going get hot but general driving I found my lever only gets mildly warm whenever fresh oil is put in.

Oils are changed as per service intervals and the the car is serviced annually. The heat transfer from the exhaust/cats to the box make that absolutely mandatory.

The heat from a Chim V8 is nothing like the heat from a Speed Six exhaust , and I guess the proximity of the cats to the gearbox won't help.

Yeah I was wondering if that’s the case as my mates Tuscan gear knob used to get very warm.

My Chim one would too but definitely much better since regular oil changes.

I own both, from my experience the Tuscan suffers badly from hot knob, my Tuscan runs no cats and manifolds are Zirtec coated, but gets very uncomfortable after a few hrs driving

The Chim despite many hrs driving in 30c + temperatures and for a few hrs never gets uncomfortable

I fitted a ‘heat sink’ composite stick on mine and was barely warm afterwards compared to roasting hot.

I like the golf glove solution... especially since right handers only buy a left hand glove smile

search google for carbon fibre gear knob.

Not sure if any of those products fit the TVR but worth researching.

I've never had a problem with a hot gear knob in my Griffith, despite summer trips to Spa & Le Mans (standard metal gear knob).
