A growing thought has been seeded to sell the much beloved and get myself something American to go in the garage.

Now, just wondering where the good folk of PHs would recommend advertising their P&J to effect a swift and trouble free sale? Also, what are the associated costs in doing so e.g. is does it stay in print in Autotrader etc until it is sold?

I am looking for a quick sale at around £22,500 for a late 2000 model, all upgrades, rebuilt engine and very recent Nitrons, 12 months MOT and 6 months tax. Got around 20,800 miles on too. Does that sound reasonable?

If it doesn't sell it doesn't sell - I will just keep enjoying the car until it does. But if it does sell, I have the opportunity to get something I have had my eye on!

Don't do it, don't do it, don't do it, don't do it, don't do it, don't do it, don't do it, don't do it, don't!!!

How about trying to find out what a dealer thinks, or speak to James Agger?

Alternatively - just DON'T.....

I know I shouldn't do it. Really, I shouldn't.

But I like tinkering a bit with cars and getting them just right and the Tuscan is complete with not even a rattle.

I know I am one of the lucky ones, and have a good 'un, but I am getting this hankering for a Corvette. It means selling the Toucan or being insolvent and divorced (hmmmm, even that idea has merit ). I must be mad to yearn after a 6 litre V8 with the current price of petrol - but I have made all my car buying decisions with my heart, never my brain - otherwise I would never have had all the fun and enjoyment!!

Hi, a difficult decision to make and one I made myself. The mistake I made was to find the average price on the Pistonheads adverts and Autotrader, then priced mine around those. I overestimated the market even at the start of the summer, and thus had to keep reducing the price. If you have no rush to sell though, you do have the luxury of waiting as long as you like to get the right price. There are a few for sale at the moment, and a lot less buyers than you think, and when I sold mine buyer were literally playing two or three sellers off against each other.

In conclusion:

Ebay: Good if you absolutely need to get your car sold in 10 days. Still there is no guarantee whatsover that anyone who bids or wins has the money or actually will go through with buying it. It is a good advertising tool however, and got quite a lot of interest. Usually from people who wanted to do a straight swop which a Focus RS or an Mondeo and some knocked off laptops.

Autotrader: Good responses from here, usually from people who were just started thinking about thinking about a TVR and maybe a Tuscan. Also a few dealers who will offer you £4k less than your asking price.

Pistonheads: Real people who ask real questions and are ready to buy. The benefit is is that people in here actually know what they are talking about and what they want, and although you will have to answer a few questions they will be relevant ones and at least you will feel like you are getting somewhere.

Your car will get interest at £22k or thereabouts because of the popular colour, it has had a rebuild and has nitrons. Thus, if someone knows their Tuscans it would be a better bet than buying one without the extras for say £19k which there are a few around.

I think your price is about right and hope you get to speak to some enthusiasts who know what your car is worth, Good Luck!

Thanks for that - sounds like good and fair advice to me. I think with specialised cars, it will always be a buyers market - they can afford to pick and choose. I bought my car from the PHs classifieds and it must have been up there for several weeks with only myself and another buyer showing any interest - and that was 3 years ago! It is probably a question of waiting long enough to find a buyer, rather than one of pricing flexibility.

Thanks again.
