Anyone tried out or have info on new roadangel satnav system. Looks good but have yet to see one in the flesh.

I just sold my navman ICN510 (not loud enough) and traded my Road Angel 2 in for a Navigator. They phoned and said it should be with me in a few days as they had ben promised stock today, I do not like to buy without reading an independent review first, but I have got so fed up of scanning the web every day hoping for a review I have just gone for one. I went to Blackspot who are quite near me and saw one working last week, seems good. We shall see.

That looks like a very nice piece of kit indeed. Only problem could be if you use that system in France. There was a report on PHs recently that someone got tugged by the Gendermes and his Road Angel was confiscated/destroyed, a 500 Euro fine imposed and his journey delayed by an hour or two.

I would be very cautious using a system like that abroad for this very reason. OK, it doesn't have laser or radar BUT you would have to convince the authorities that it was purely a SatNav system - and nothing else. In this case, the Road Angel brand may be difficult to defend, especially if they Google it for find out what it can do. Other grievance I have is that the European maps are an additional £199 - very expensive IMHO when you can buy SatNat that covers Europe for less than £300 all in, including the unit.

All that aside though, that Road Angel is a very sexy thing to have on the dashboard and I wouldn't mind getting one if I start to drive alot again.

Mine arrived today, having problems downloading the software for it, it did not have a handbook with it, Blackspot are sending me one, quite a few have been despatched without books so the dealer told me. I had a quick trip out with it earlier tonight and it did not detect the static camera near to where I live going in either directiom, I wonder if although the maps are all preloaded it perhaps does not have cameras on until downloaded from Blackspot website.

Just edited this post, it takes one full working day before Navigator will be registered on line with Blackspot, then all software should download okay.

Update on the Navigator. Still will not load software from website, When switching on it says system error before screen works properly, Had to register by phone it would not register on the Blackspot site. I am taking it to Blackspot at Silverstone tomorrow afternoon, they think it is a software problem that they can sort out while I wait.

The only positive thing about all this is the people at Blackspot could not be any more helpful and I have spoken to quite a few over the last two days. Also as good as their word the handbook arrived in the post today.

Went to Blackspot today, people still very helpful, was there about 30 mins and my Navigator was given back to me and I have been told everything is now okay, it detected both static cameras on the way home and navigated straight to my door. Need to check the personal preference settings when I get the chance, but hopefully now all okay.

Hello.. when you say traded in.. did you sell your RA2 privately or is there a company that will do a deal for the upgrade? Also looking to upgrade to the Navigtor... thanks.

There are several places offering trade ins, I was offered trade ins from £140.00 to £230.00. The trade in I used was from nav-now.co.uk Tel: 0871 7500 111 they offered a lower price to start with but with negotation gave me £230.00 this was for a Road Angel 2 in perfect condition with its box.
