Rear view mirror fitting

Whoever had the car before me obviously gave up on trying to fit the correct rear view and just stuck one on the window below the original mount. Only issue is it wobbled so much it seemed it almost impossible to use.
I ordered the correct mirror which came yesterday.
Went to fit the new one and I m struggling to see how to get the plastic clip on to hold the mirror in place. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
This is the current state of play - roll hoop totally blocks the ability to get the clip over the mount:
