Discussion
Hi ,I was having a chat in the pub with some friends and we got round to discussing cars as you do!
They seemed to suggest that the Tuscan would not be able to beat a M3/evo/scooby fast one/ boxter S/911.
I ve had a few of the above glued to back of my Tusc when Ive been driving looking for a race but Ive just shook my head and laughed at them so far and it's a bit slippy at the moment to give it some.
having only had my car a few months and wanting to get to know it better and get a few points of my licence (lose 6 in Dec) before I give it some welly I haven't lit up the change uplights yet but it seems plenty fast enoughto me.
I think the Tusc would destroy them no probs am I right.
I'm no Pussy when it comes to driving but having saved up for the car I don't want to wrap it being egged on by some tosser until I know the car and handling charactaristics a bit better.
Comment/experiences anyone.

depends...on the road its all about whos got no will to live...on a track its a different matter...Scoobies are not that fast around a track, Boxster S underpowered, M3 ..nope...if you can drive it on the limit around a circuit then you should see them off easy enough...on the road, in a straight line with no traffic then no probs either..other than that I wouldnt risk my life to prove a point.......
Put me on a performance bike and in a performance car? Patience personified. I can do it - IF I WANT TO.
Loan me a Nova/Metro/A2/schhh!-eye-t box and you will see me proving it will break the speed limit.
Strange change in attitude....
Chill out in your new wheels - live longer and enjoy the roads more !

In over 3 years of Tuscan ownership I can say for certain that, on the public highway, it will not beat most of the aforementioned.
On a drag strip it will destroy all but the scariest scoobies.
On the track it becomes very dependent on driver ability and car setup. It takes a good driver to drive a tusc fast. NOT ME (yet).
Previous cars have included a bog standard UK impreza which was much much quicker point to point because it was SO useable.
But for fun?
TUSCAN. Its like landing after base jumping after a thrash.

Aesop's Fables "The Eagle and the Arrow"
An Eagle was soaring through the air when suddenly it heard the whizz of an Arrow, and felt itself wounded to death. Slowly it fluttered down to the earth, with its life-blood pouring out of it. Looking down upon the Arrow with which it had been pierced, it found that the shaft of the Arrow had been feathered with one of its own plumes. "Alas!" it cried, as it died,
"We often give our enemies the means for our own destruction."
You don't have to prove your faster when they and you know you are!

Geo,
Your tuscan should absolutely piss all over all of the aforementioned cars in the dry, except heavily modded scoobies and the like and GT2 / GT3RS porkers. On the road, you would be silly to even go near the maximum cornering speed of the tuscan, as it is not always easy to cath the back end (on a track its fine, there's plenty of room to get it wrong!!!
). Moreover, you should be able to spin the rear wheels up to 3rd gear, and make. On a drag strip, you should be able to get sub 13 secs for the quarter mile so can't see much this side of 450 bhp beating that (and you don't have to rip out all the spare seats, stereo and door trims like some of the guys at santa pod!!!!!!. You have a win win formula : a lightweight car with serious amounts of power that is suprisingly easy to drive hard and fast if set up right.
So, in summary, you can
your mouth off in the pub, because you really do have a seriously quick car...........

Exactly, that will be in the modified category then..... - you can chuck turbos / superchargers on most engines and yep, you've got it , it goes quicker.... - most elises / exiges put out 170 - 190 bhp if i'm not mistaken - in fact there are only 50 that in standard spec put out over 200 bhp, and they cost 43K new. An they're all sold. Those do 0-60 in sub 4 secs apparently, so if yours has 300 horses, I'm not suprised it it can do 1/4 mile in 11secs. Its also one of the few cars weighing less than 1 tonne.

from the topgear web site power laps
t2 1.24.8
m3 csl 1.28.0
evo 8 1.28.9
911 carera s 1.28.9 (very wet)
m3 1.31.8
CSL laptime was in the wet as well. I'd say the Tuscan is on par with a CSL round track. The extra bhp combats the CSL's better handling/corner speeds.
Hi guys thanks for the feedback,
looking forward to going to the pub again armed with all your comments and Info. I guess some people just dont appreciate the power/speed of these cars.Once the good weather comes around I'll start to wind it up again and might even do a track day to explore the full potential of the Tusc.
I've just booked it in to get the brake pads front/rear changed and Im looking at some Nitron/Ohlin suspension mods to improve the handling in time for spring/summer.
Apart from Carbon Cans what other exhausts are you guys using?.
I saw an advert in classifieds some time ago of a Dark Blue tusc with very thin oval rear cans finished in chrome, looked really good but Iv'e never seen anything like it since..
Rgds

blutusc - agreed ...was just begin sarky re the comment that you needed xxx bhp to be faster...wheres less weight can help too
Georg - (I dont mean this to come across patronising - forgive me if you race at the weekends!) ...but rather than brakes/suspension etc have you ever done any track driver training/car control courses?. The biggest thing that will make you quicker in all conditions is confidence in yourself/the car.
If you go to a track day, get an instructor to take you around in your own car...then when you can drive the car to its limits confidently (like the instuctor) its time to 'make the car better' etc...once it becomes the limitation....well thats what id do anyway - an above avg driver in a Tuscan will be quicker than an avg one in all the above cars....even with them having the 'electronic advantage' i.e. computers sorting out the traction and braking mistakes they make without them even noticing
Personally I think the brakes on a std Tuscan are great - the suspension could do with some work...but its not that bad Id go out and spend £2K on it right away...especially if I wasnt tracking it regular.

In the dry, in a straight line, a 4 litre Tuscan will spank all but the most exotic cars. I remember having a particularly fun afternoon playing with a 911 GT2 once. Not least because I fell in love with the gorgeous blonde driving it as she wrung its neck all the way down the dual carriageway. But, that aside, there wasn't TOO much in it up to 1.4 speed units, which made me feel good considering the comparative car prices.
"Normal" sports cars - standard 911s, Scoobies, etc. are noticeably slower than a Tuscan in a straight line. In the wet, I wouldn't race a maxxed Nova for fear of being hurled into a ditch - just not worth it. And round a track it's down to the driver (and how well set up the car is) as much as anything.
Me, I was particularly proud of out-dragging a new Tigra this weekend... in my Ford Explorer.
It's so much more fun when it's a challenge.

There is a program knocking about on here somewhere that allows you to choose your car & then choose another car & it show you a timed race between the 2! can't find it at the moment as i'm working away if no-one else posts it i'll check my desktop on fri.
It will keep you entertained for ages!
