Hi Guys!! I want to buy myself a tuscan as a second car..(a toy!)as I have purely fell in love with the look, the sound, and the comments of power and enjoyment they give but know nothing about them. I just want to say I am 39 and have done a few years Circuit and Autograss racing and not a Johnny Rev plonker!! I have read comments about the problems with the early engines, and the build quality etc!! I reckon owners advice like most of you could give me some good pointers.... all info you can offer me would be appreciated.

Suggest posting this in the Tuscan forum firstly.

Then might be an idea to contact TSS: www.pistonheads.com/members/showProfile.asp?memberId=14087

...he keeps (or used to) a fairly comprehensive buyers guide.

Also, have a thorough read through the posts on the Speed 6 forum in the TVR forums section.

The Speed 6 is the engine used in all Tuscans and I think it is fair to say (if not a gross understatement) that the engine problems do not seem to be limited exclusively to the early cars.

Don't hesitate just do it when I got a company car & sold the M3 3 years ago I went out & bought a Chimaera (mainly cos the mrs had £ signs in her eyes) & then 18 months later I drove past Gorners & fell in love with a Rolex Blue Tuscan that was on the forecourt & 10 months later I still smile every time I open the garage door & nothing gets rid of stress & a bad week better than going for a spin in the Tuscan.
You will not regret it just do it. I can also recommend highly HL Gorners for quality & service.

Thanks
Howard.

I think Kippax has said what is very often not mentioned, 9.99 out of 10, these cars are such stress relievers, when I drive mine, I am never unhappy, no matter what mood I was in before driving!
So, they're good for your health and well being!!!

You know like when you were a kid you might have had a special fancy pair of trainers, or a 'match day' cricket bat, that you hardly ever used but you loved dearly forever?

If you have any bit of that kid still in you, then make like Tim Westwood and get a Tuscan because You Need This IN Your Life Baby Yeah!

Get a good one. Less than 20 K miles, FSH, from dealer with warranty preferably. Look at at least 5 before buying. Get a colour combo you like- the more garish may look good initially but may become a little wearing after a while.

Prepare to budget 3-4K in one for yearly maintenance, and just KNOW ot will break. Who cares? Not you- you will be a 15 year old kid again.

Hi there and welcome to the mad world of the Tuscan.

Massive grins all round, both as driver, passenger and spectator. I'm contemplating selling mine, and have just had it all checked over by Racing Green TVR to ensure all is mechanically well.

Its a difficult decision, as they really are superb cars, and I'm not totally convinced yet that I should sell it . I won't use this thread as an advert however, but will post up an ad in the classifieds. Do feel free to contact me if there is anything you'd like to know in the meantime.

And yes, they really do go as fast as they look

i bought my tuscan (2000) in may this year,it was the first one i looked at but bought it on the basis that i loved the rare colour...wild oyster(light gold)and it was owned by a guy in his sixties since new.

i read about the problems but i just went for it.
it had full history but no rebuild and i did 6000mls of pure happiness over the summer(currently 28000mls on clock)and love the attention that it gets me..
unfotunately my engine deciced to give up on me but to be honest it was always in the back of my mind as it had not had any major work.
as long as you can put up with the niggles and put a few quid away just in case then you have to buy 1 of these cars for the sheer enjoyment it will give you and the amount of heads that it will turn.
there are some good ones out there that have had be-builds and i would go for 1 of them for peace of mind.
as soon as mine is back on the road i will be a happy man again!

Welcome to the Dark Side. All of the above is true, and in addition you will be the envy of all your friends, the neighbors, all the pedestrians you will ever meet, most white van drivers and even some traffic wardens. You will win the respect of the majority of bikers and extremely attractive young women will begin to talk to you. You will become the hero of every school boy in your neighborhoo. Chav's will refuse eye contact at traffic lights and be oddly silent.

The downside is you will make many more friends-especially on a sunday morning when you wash the beast.

You will bitterly regret every day you went without.

If you get an early one at around 20k miles or so, you've probably not got too much life left in the clutch (unless the slave cylinder seals have already been replaced). Make sure you've got a warranty/a few hundred quid on one side for this... and take it very easy driving in the Winter months.

Good hunting!
