Hi all,

Had my X reg Tuscan two weeks and all has been great until yesterday, went for a drive then switched the car off whilst I was waiting for someone for several minutes.......when restarted I now have the EFI WARNING and a constant beeping......every so often the LCD screen would come back and show them temps etc ok.

Now sitting outside my house, she starts etc but am going to get her lifted to dealer!!!

In all fairness the motor has been outside the past few weeks and it has pretty much been raining non stop, I cant put the cover on her as this sets the alarm off (Need to turn down the sensitivity)

Im hoping this will not be too serious.............fingers crossed!!!!!!!

Good news (if I am right).

My 2000 Tuscan did this as well, popping up with EFI fault every 30 second or a minute.

It did it twice in fact. One of the times was when I needed a new Lambda sensor, and the EFI fault popped up as the car was running too richly. I think it was only about £70 to replace.

The other time was whenever I washed the car with more than a bucket of water and a sponge. As soon as the car dried out it stopped. Would happen most every time I had the car handwashed at the local handwashers.

It is probably most likely the second one. I think a few more Tuscans have this 'quirk' as well!

can confirm my experience as well.

Been told by the experts at Fernie's its due to moisture and will go away once dried out.. the tell tale sign is if the EFI warning flickers on and off on the LCD.. if it is constant then the issue is more serious

Hope it works out ok

If your tickover drops when it comes on then it could be lambda related, if not probably just water somewhere.

Also...
Have you tried putting the cover on before setting the alarm ?
It takes 30 secs for the alarm to set up the Microwave perimiter. After that only removing the cover should set it off.

Just a thought.

I seem to recall that this can also be caused by a can of tyre sealant banging against the thingy in the boot. Or is that something else?

Doesn't that mean the car will not start as it triggers the fuel pump cut-off?

IIRC in the early days of my first Tus I had the EFI warnings and the lads at HHC told me to check the sealant tins. One was pushed up against the thingy and I moved it and actually put some newspaper between the tins and the thingy and I never had the problem again.. It was about 3 years ago so I might be mistaken.

You're probably right - I've never had that problem on mine.

Sorry has taken me a while to update.......

Car went to dealers a week on friday, they didnt get round to looking at it until Tuesday!!!

EFI problem - Throttle Bodies needed adjusting and was running too rough!!! Now been tuned and is running fine!!!

Alarm sensitivity sorted - Can put a cover on my car finally!!!!

Reverse light now working!!! (New switch needed)

All in about £250 ......... Not too bad I guess, could have been much worse!

NEW PROBLEM - My seatbelt is locked and I can get it on!!! I know this is a very minor moan for such a car but id still like to have it on!!!!!!! Common problem???Any ideas who I can take it to??? Im in london/essex way.

Cheers

The seat belts normally lock if the car is on any sort of angle, if you are not on a completely flat piece of road TADTS

Mine have done it a couple of times after sitting at the dealers unused for a couple of weeks. Last time it took a fair amount of tugging/jiggling and bouncing the car about to get it to release.

Funny you should say that Basil......

I was having trouble with mine before it went to the dealers but after a few tugs it would work.......since it has come back ive not been able to release it from the lock position at all!!

Have a look tomorrow.......if it does need fixing id like to think it wont be that big a job....its a seatbelt after all!!!

After the last service I had driven the car most of the way back to Leeds from Wigan before it started working again.
