Tyre pressures

Just had my goodyear F1's fitted yesterday 255/35/18 all around
The tyre fitter was adiment that i should be running the tyres at 34 psi, and told me that running at the book recomended pressure off tvr would knacker the tyres??

any thoughts, i'm currenty running the at 34 like he recomended.

30psi is enough, at 34psi the ride is pretty harsh. If you go much lower, you risk bending your spiders in potholes. At 34psi you may get excessive wear at the middle of the tire

Run mine at 26psi and the ride and drive feels fine.
Have tried differing pressures from 24 up to 30, but found the level around 26 to be the best compromise.

I have Goodyear F1's on the rear and P's on the front

IMHO running the tyres at those pressures is to high, depending on the weather conditions I run the front tyres at22/24psi and the rears at 24/26 psi.

I accidentally set my Griff tyres to run 30something like that (couldn't read the gauge ). It was like driving on marbles! Can't imagine the Tuscan would be much different. Mine stay at 22/24, thank you!

When our Tamora came out of the factory it was riding on 28 PSI. When I mentioned to the dealer the handling was a little harsh, they reduced the pressure to 24 PSI.

Another owner had to have exactly the same thing done.

The handbook for the T2 recommends 28 which is what I use. The Tuscan had Toyos and I ran them at 24.

I had two rear tyres fitted I never thought to ask what pressure was used as their standard. My car felt a bit skittish, but I though this would get better as the tyres wore a bit.

The best handling upgrade I had was when i took my car in for a service where I was reliably informed that 34 was way to high. When they were reduced to 24, it felt like a new car!

I have 255 35x18 on the rear of my Griffith and as has been said the chassis design etc. is pretty similar (I have Nitrom dampers) - I run 25 rear and 24 front and it's about right. That tyre fitter was wrong. Rich...

boooing back up to the top, sorry to ressurect and old thread but I had the tuscan serviced by TVR Power today and the engineer put all my pressures up to 28psi. It is MUCH better (more stable, and comfortable ride) especially at high speed that before with the 22ish I have before. Im guessing I might get a tiny bit less traction now though??

at 28 psi running 255s yu will get to wear out the flanks too quickly because the 8.5rims are too narrow for the wide tiyres: I suggest you keep pressure around 32-34psi. Traction is more a function of the kind of tyre you put on (softer is better but wears more quickly). I bent 2 spiders in potholes on TVRs recommended pressure of 24psi.

its amazing how EVERYONE has an utterly different opinion on this topic, in this thread alone (which Im sure is one of many) people swear by anything from 22 - 34 psi which is a pretty big gap really!

I guess its indicative of the limited R & D work done by tvr so we are left to figure it out on our own!

Not sure about that, in my experience Tuscans are the most suspension/tyre sensitive cars I've ever driven. When they're right then the driving experience is second to none, when they're wrong (even slightly different pressure to what you're used to) it's very noticable and they can be a scary beast. There are so many different tyre brand/sizes, wheel sizes/widths, suspension set ups for 16"/18" wheels and permutations of all 3, it's hardly suprising different people have differing pressures they like to run.

Having said that I recently had two rear 255/35's fitted and inflated too high- about 34psi and the car felt very uncomfortable. 24-26 seems about right.
