Hi! Excellent choice of vehicle.

I understand that TVR keep a record of which engines have been 'rebuilt'. For what it is worth, I would have thought that if it had that this would be a major selling point of the car so I would have thought that the previous owner would have told you.

It is impossible to sum up the 'rebuild' situation in a few lines here, and it would be a great idea to look through this section, perhaps with a search for the word 'rebuild'.

I used Green Flag who offer a service which cost about £100 a year to offer an 'AA' type service. The difference is that with Green Flag if they cannot fix your car they will take it to the nearest dealer. In effect they never bothered to even check if they could fix the car, they know they cant get the parts and most of the people they send dont even know how to get the bonnet off. However, for my £100 I got 3 trips on the back of a low-loader to the dealers which would have cost me a hell of a lot more if I had not had the coverage!

I also had a warranty with Warranty Works. Although such warranties will not pay for everything, for example they do not pay for things like hosing, wear and tear items, replacement fluids or other subsidiary costs such as diagnosis or adjustment, it did pay back for itself for a clutch, alternator, oil pressure sender, boot release and speed sensor in the space of 9 months.

With a car like this, it does cost a bit to run and people are more lucky than others with the amount of work done. However there is no substitute to reading the information on these forums and a good warranty!

Good luck!

Thanks Justin your a star!

As the vehicle was brought to repair by the seller, and of course the salvage yard was unaware he could not advise me! which in turn gave me great bargaining power as I had to assume the worst. It might even be done? but knowing my luck things never go well for long!

But Yes I intend to buy recovery and an insurance called "Autoprotect" for the engine etc.. have you or anyone used this before? it just its £1500. which is fine if they are good however insurance companies enjoy not paying up and hiding behind clauses!

Thanks

Paul
