Why isn't my Tuscan selling?
Discussion
2003 53 reg titanium, S version (400bhp plus spoilers ect) 11k miles from new. imacukate condition just had full engine rebuild so has warranty and I've had it advertised for a while at 30k but have had little interest... I thought 30k was about right, even cheap what do you guys think?
Hi Arran,
Just had a look at your ad, and it says it has been up there for 4 days, but I presume perhaps another advert had been up longer?
If not, then to be honest to sell a Tuscan in the winter will most likely take a bit more time than that even if you were giving it away.
What I found with selling my Tuscan, was it was all about the curves of supply and demand. There may be 50 second hand Tuscans being advertised, but if there is only 10 people out there seriously looking to buy soon, yours has to take their eye more than the rest, and this may be the problem I think.
Yours is a decent car at a decent price. The problem is it is sitting next to a few more other decent cars at decent prices. To attract people to your advert your car need to have something special that people desire, like a partiular colour they like or the 'S spec' which is good, or it needs to stand our because of price.
When I was selling my Tuscan, and I put it up for about the same price as the others I didnt get a sniff. Even when I reduced the price to that it was pretty much the cheapest non CAT D Tuscan in the country it was still tough going, I had to wait weeks and was knocked down from my asking price even then.
Put in short it is a difficult car to sell, and you either need to take a hit on the price, or be patient. Winter is not good for selling sports cars, so I would expect the interest to raise as it gets to summer.
The other thing I found is that a lot of people have the asking price for the car, but not so many are willing to risk it on a 'risky TVR' or be able to afford the running costs. Yours is in a tricky price band. Although your car is up a fair price, for someone who has £30k to buy a second hand one out of warranty they are probably budgeting a bit extra for repairs. £30k plus a bit extra is getting very close to brand new 2006, new shape, supposedly more reliable Tuscans with the new three year warranty.
In short, selling at this time is a difficult job in itself. If you can afford to wait, you should get more response about May June time. If you cant, or you simply want rid, your other option is to lower the price until there is a buyer out there who wants to pay that much for it.

Arran, I've looked at your ad a few times as I may be going down the 996 cab > Tuscan route too.
Couple of things I've noticed. You need a few more pictures. It's a small detail, but most Tuscs have a few shots from different angles. In your piccies, the colour looks different on the car in both pics. Would be good to see some all shot at the same time. Interior and exterior.
Secondly, and far more importantly, the rebuild. Who was it by? Did it have any upgraded components or were they the original Tuscan issue? Who is issuing the warranty? Adding detail about what was actually done during the rebuild may help it's saleability.
Thirdly, £29,995 is ten grand less than £30,000

arran said:That's important, you should add the fact that they are doing the rebuild into the ad. From trawling the Speed Six forum it seems TVR Power actually address the causes of the problems that necessitate the rebuilds in the first place. A rebuild by them is an upsell as far as I'm concerned.
TVR power....
Bro i no what your going through, not that ive sold a Tuscan but having owned 40 or so cars sometimes selling can be a real pain in the neck.Ive waited up to 4 months or so to get a sale before an i think a lot of the problem is the vast comp of advertisment out there also the time of year.I dout if anyone will be as straight forward as this but i think the car is up for a little to much, depends how desperate you are to sell but i would think the lowest price you would take an add £500 to it. I no its dishearting with what you paid for it an the maintance cost dont help .Good luck

Best of luck with the sale, mate......if I could, I probably would!
