I recently had a tyre blow out and had to get towed to the nearest performance car centre. Nobody in the area had a Toyo 245/40/ZR18 so had to get a Continental. This tyre is on the rear offside, all the others are Toyos, is this a problem? Don't want to swop unless I have to, tyre cost £170 and the Toyo was only 2 months old and done 700 miles.

You mean you've got different tyres side to side on the same axle? The difference in grip levels could be lethal on a normal car, let alone a TVR. Get another toyo asap and sell the conti.

I always made sure that on my Tuscan I had matching tyres. Interestingly when I bought it the rears were mismatched. When I noticed later i had them both changed for Toyos as they were worn anyway.

I have a Merc CLK now and although my two rears are both Contis they have a different tread pattern. When I spoke to my local tyre fitters about it they said it would be fine as long as they were the same size... I can understand the huge benefit on the Tuscan as a lot of the time you are running the car at its limits of traction, but with the Merc, an auto box and traction control, will in make much difference to me cruising round?

Granted describing it as lethal may have been a bit OTT but I wouldn't risk it.
